The picture below shows 2 thermostates removed from a 1998 Chevy 6.5 diesel. Both thermostates had failed when the rubber seal that was originaly bonded to the stat body became unglued and the rubber the was forced into the stat orfice thus keeping the stat from ever stopping the flow of coolant.This truck could never reach at temperature above 130 degrees.
For comparison the 3rd. stat is a new one with the rubber bonded to the stat body.
