-
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a school for wizards and witches - one of the best in Europe.
All students are boarders and live in houses in the school. Over the holidays, students are allowed to leave the school for
a brief break and return home for a well deserved rest, or they can choose to stay in the school. Over the summer, students
are required to go back home. Students range from 11 to 18 years old, the equivalent of form 1-7.

Classes
Arithmancy
Arithmany is taught by Professor Vector. What is it? Well, we don't learn much about it in
the books, but it is probably the study of Math. The name of the Professor gives away all the clues. This is the only lesson
Hermione doesn't have with Harry and Ron, because when she takes Arithmancy, Harry and Ron go off to Divination.
Arithmancy
is also known as numerology, which is a way of predicting the future with numbers in different combinations affiliated with
your birthdate and name.
Astronomy
Astronomy is taught by Professor Sinistra. In this class, students study the night sky plotting
the stars and looking for symbols. For homework, students are required to make precise models of the stars.
Care of Magical Creatures
This lesson is taught by a person that is very keen on magical creatures -
Hagrid. The many creatures they have studied included Hippogrifs, and Blast Ended Skrewts. Not much is learn in this lesson.
Instead, students spend most of their time making sure that their robes don't catch on fire.
Charms
Charms is taught by the tiny Professor Flitwick, whom despite his size has a great knowledge of
spells. Students learn all sorts of spells and charms that are quite useful to many students.
Defense Against the Dark Arts
Every year Harry has been in this school, he has had a different DADA
professor. Is the rumor that this job is cursed true? Students learn a lot from DADA, for example what unforgivable curses
are.
Divination
Divination is taught by the very dreamy Professor Trelawney in her classroom in the most
northern tower of Hogwarts. Students learn how to predict what's going to happen in the future in many different ways, such
as glaring in to a crystal ball or swirling tea leaves. However, many suspect that not much is learned here, as only few have
the real gift to predict the future.
Flying Lessons
Flying lessons are taught by Madam Hooch in the beautiful Hogwarts grounds. Students learn
how to use a broomstick properly, and soon are able to fly in the air without crashing into the ground. This lesson is well
liked by students because learning to fly is as exciting as learning how to drive in the muggle world.
Herbology
Herbology is taught by Professor Sprout, head of Hufflepuff in the greenhouses of Hogwarts.
Students learn about different plants, what they are used for and often have hands on experience on how to handle them.
History of Magic
History of Magic is considered to be one of the most boring subjects in Hogwarts, and
is taught by Professor Binns, a Hogwarts Ghost. In this class, students learn about the history of Witches, Wizards, and other
wizarding/magic-related events that happened in the past.
Muggle Studies
Students in this class take a break from the wizarding world and learn all about muggles.
As many students in Hogwarts have never lived in the muggle world, muggle habits, customs, history is taught - just about
everything is covered.
Potions
Potions is not enjoyed by many students, especially those in Gryffindor as it is taught by the
extremely biased Professor Snape, head of Slytherin. He constantly makes students nervous as they are preparing their potions,
leading to mistakes and points taken off Gryffindor.
Transfiguration
Transfiguration is an extremely complex branch of magic, taught by Head of Gryffindor
Professor McGonagall. The intellegent people seem to like this subject a lot, as Albus Dumbledore once taught Transfiguration
before being headmaster of Hogwarts. Transfiguration involves a student transforming one object to another. Students start
out with simple objects, such as transforming a match into a needle.

Teachers:
Albus Dumbledore - (Headmaster)
Albus Dumbledore is currently around 150 years old and is the headmaster
of Hogwarts (previously the Tranfiguration teacher). He is considered to be the best wizard by most others, and is the only
wizard that Voldemort fears. He has a long white beard, crooked nose and wears glasses shaped like a half moon. On his left
knee is a map of the London subway.
Miverva McGonagall - (Deputy Headmaster, Head of Gryffindor, Transfiguration teacher)
Professor McGonagall
is currently the deputy headmaster of Hogwarts, head of Gryffindor and the Transfiguration teacher. Although she seems very
strict on the outside, she is actually quite nice at heart.
Severus Snape- (Potions Teacher, Head of Slytherin)
Professor Snape is the potions teacher, and head
of Slytherin House. He can be quite nasty at times, rarely talks, and prefers students from Slytherin. When he was a student
at Hogwarts, he used to be enemies with Harry's father James, leading him to dislike (abhor is a better word) Harry today.
Rubeus Hagrid - (Gamekeeper, Care for Magical Creatures teacher)
Hagrid is a mix between a giant and
wizard. During his third year at Hogwarts, Hagrid was expelled due to a misunderstanding that he was letting out the Basilisks
around the school grounds. However, due to the kindness of Professor Dumbledore, he was allowed to stay on as the gamekeeper.
He has a particular liking for creatures, and own/owned quite a number of pets. He is also the Care of Magical Creatures teacher.
Even though he looks rough and clumsy on the outside, he actually has a good heart and has a very sweet personality.
Professor Binns - (History teacher)
Professor Binns is the only ghost among the Hogwarts faculty. Rumors
go that one day while having a nap in the staff room, I fire broke out and he slept right through it, taking his body away
at the same time. However, his spirit was left behind, turning him into a ghost. His classes are extremely boring and often
students fall alseep in them.
Madam Hooch - (Flying Instructor)
Madam Hooch is the flying instructor, and also the referee for all
school quidditch games.
Professor Quirrell - (Former DADA teacher)
Professor Quirrell was Harrys DADA teacher in his first year
at Hogwarts. He talks with a stutter, and seems to be afraid of everything. He once asked the school for a one year break,
in which he met Volemort and was drawn into his dark circle. He used to go around wearing a purple turban - in fact, the turban
was used to hide Voldmort. He tried to kill Harry on his quest to find the Philosophers Stone, but ended up failing and died.
Gilderoy Lockhart - (Former DADA teacher)
Professor Lockhart was Harrys DADA teacher in his second year
at Hogwarts. He was a handsome young man, and has sold many best sellers. He was also boasting about his phenomenal knowledge
of magic, but in reality he doesn't know anything. In the end, while trying to use the Memory charm on Ron, it backfired and
hit him instead.
Professor Remus J. Lupin - (Former DADA teacher)
Professor Lupin was Harrys DADA teacher in his third
year at Hogwarts. He graduated out of Hogwarts himself, and was Harry's dads best friend. Lupin was bitten by a werewolf as
a child, and ever since transformed to a wolf every full moon. However, he resigned after his true identity was revealed -
that a was a pity, for he was Harrys favorite DADA teacher.
Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody - (DADA teacher)
Moody is a retired and very famous auror, who helped catch many
of Voldemorts followers during the dark years. He has countless scars all over his body, a wooden leg, and a big electric
blue eye that can turn 360 degrees in his eye socket. His other eye is normal. Moody is extremely eccentric, and can often
surprise you with his strange antics. However, it turns out that the teacher that taught Harry in his fourth year wasn't Moody
- it was Crouch Jr., who took the polyjuice potion every few hours to retain Moodys looks.
Professor Trelawney - (Divinition teacher)
Up in her perfumed filled tower, Professor Trelawney teachers
students the art of Divinition, ranging from gazing through a crystal ball to analyzing tea leaves. She often makes predictions
about Harry, but most of them never come true. In her whole career, she is only known to have made 2 accurate predictions.
Argus Filch - (Caretaker)
Argus Filch is a grumpy squib, who is jealous of all students in Hogwarts and
doesn't enjoy seeing them happy. He also has a cat named Mrs. Norris, who is his only companion.
Professor Sprout - (Herbology Teacher, Head of Hufflepuff)
Professor Sprout is the schools Herbology
teacher, and is also Head of Hufflepuff.
Professor Flitwick - (Charms teacher,Head Of Ravenclaw)
Professor Flitwick is Hogwarts own tiny midget
like Charms teacher. He is so short that he has to stand on a pile of books while teaching the class!
Professor Sinistra - (Astronomy teacher)
Not much is known about Professor Sinistra, except that she
is the Astronomy teacher at Hogwarts.
Madam Pomfrey - (Nurse)
Madam Pomfrey is Hogwarts nurse, and knows cures for just about every type of
disease.
Madam Pince - (Librarian)
Madam Pince is Hogwarts librarian.
Professor Vector - (Arithmancy teacher)
Professor Vector is Hogwarts Arithmancy teacher.
Professor Kettleburn - (Former Care of Magical Creatures teacher)
Former Care of Magical Creatures teacher,
retired in Harrys second year.
Professor Dippit - (Former Headmaster)
Former headmaster of Hogwarts, while Tom Riddle and Hagrid were
students at Hogwarts.
