Gearing in the wheel pit room. The great spur wheel is on the far left. Note that the smaller gear wheel (stone nut) can be raised or lowered to engage or disengage the mill stone to which it is attached.

Grinding wheel for sharpening bills located on top floor of mill. The wheel was driven by a belt linked to a hoizontal shaft on the floor below. The trough under the wheel collected the water used to keep the wheel cool. The water came from a tin can with a tap located on a shelf above the stone that dripped on the rotating stone.
