Louis XVI giltwood armchair
(this chair was featured in the March 2004 edition of Elle Magazine)

To the right is an example of a beautifully carved French Louis XVI armchair shown before and after restoration.
First the chair was cleaned, consolidated, and stripped of years of dirt, grime, and layers of unfortunate repainting.
Next we applied, carved, and finely sanded the gesso and returned its original bole color (under coat) with the traditional techniques of the time period.
Finally the chair was watergilded in 23 1/2 kt. goldleaf and brought back to its original splendor.
