Becoming a Host Family Candidate

The very essence of the Ulster Project Delaware mission, and its continued success, rests with families who share the commitment to reach out and participate by opening their homes and families to a Northern Irish teen during the month of July. The rewards and benefits of one's dedication of self, daily time commitment, and participation in the family events are deep and lifelong, not only for the teens involved, but for all members of participating families.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Catholic and Protestant families with a teenager at least 14 (prior to June 1 of the participatrion year) and no older than 16 years of age and having finished 9th grade. Both Protestant and Catholic boys and girls are sought to provide a like pairing with the Northern Irish teens.

2. Willingness and ability of host teen and parents to dedicate daily time commitment for month of July to provide delivery & pickup transportation needs and to participate in all scheduled project and family event activities.

CURRENT HOST TEEN/FAMILY RECRUITMENT

UPD is currently soliciting candidates and their families for the UPD2009 program. We will be selecting 18 teens (9 boys, 9 girls), as well as 4 families to host adult leaders. The project accepts applications through the fall and winter. Applications are reviewd and families and teens are then interviewed. Once selections are received from the participating Northern Irish town (Portadown for 2009), American selections are completed and families notified - usually in early spring.
