Our Hop Crops

We started to grow our own hops a couple of years ago. We now have 7 different hop plants.
Our current varieties are, Chinook, Cascade, Fuggles, Willamette, and Pearl. Cascade and Chinook seem to grow best in
our Northeast climate

The "Headbrewer" checks to see if the hops are ripe for the picking. We harvest our hops sometime around the end
of July to the beginning of August. As soon as the hops feel like paper and before they turn brown, they are ready to
pick.

Once we pick the hops, they need to be dried. We use a dehydrator, which works pretty good. After they are
dry we seal them in 2 ounce bags and freeze them. Prior to freezing some of them, we make our traditional "Hop Harvest
IPA". An IPA with a little of every hop we grow. I believe it is our best beer of the year. We grow enough hops
to make about a dozen different brews.
