The external reservoir, fully adjustable, 360 mm Ohlins 36PRCLB shock absorbers (HD-144) are a great upgrade for the XR1200. At 360 mm (about 14 1/4") they are slightly longer than stock, and have a
length adjustment range of 10 mm.
I coupled these with FreeSpirits riser blocks to get the handling that I wanted, but when needed
for testing other components I can pull the riser blocks and drop back down to nomininally stock height. (Alternately,
one could go with the 415mm 36PRCL shocks - no preload adjustment - from the European Trophy series.)

The install on these shocks is easy. I lifted the bike with a bike lift till the rear suspension
was fully extended but the tire did not come off the ground. After that it's just a questionof unbolting the stock shocks
and using the supplied spacers to install these so that they are vertical and parallel to each other. Adjustment is
a personal thing.
Here are a few pictures of the installed shocks...

Once I had the shocks set the way I liked, the ride was infinitely smoother on the street, I
no longer bottomed out on big bumps, and the chatter I used to feel in bumpy turns was gone. These alone were one of
the best improvements that I made, before I took the XR to the road track.
