Hammond Middle School Band Notes











Welcome to the Hammond Middle School Band website! Information will be provided here for band members, parents/guardians, and visitors.

(Music on this website is for review purposes for students.)


Our Mission

OBJECTIVES:

Increasing of students' technical proficiency on their instruments, including:
    - reading of music
    - tone quality
    - ability to play with good intonation
    - ability to play with attention to ensemble balance and blend, precision,
    - dynamics,and overall musical phrasing, style, and nuance
    - techniques indigenous to specific instruments.

Increasing of students' overall musicianship.

Increasing of students' knowledge of music theory and music history.

Increasing of students' appreciation and enjoyment of music.



Important Information

Question: What is probably the single best thing that a band member can do (in addition to practicing) to reach his or her potential?


Answer: TAKE PRIVATE LESSONS! -- Please contact Mr. Miller for details and phone numbers of local private teachers.



Also, remember to search the web for great sites related to music, bands, your instrument, music theory and history, composers, instrument maintenance, etc.

You are encouraged to contact Mr. Miller before purchasing instruments; you might want to ignore what he says, but at least you will have heard it!

Dear Eighth Grade Band Students,


I hope your 8th Grade year is off to a great start! I’m looking forward to hearing

your concerts this year and that you’re enjoying band.


As the year progresses, you will need information about continuing band at

Atholton High School. We’re very excited to have you join us and we want to

make this a great transition for you.


Below is some basic information to get started. Be sure to give this letter to your

parents and to attend the informational meeting on November 18th at 7:00pm in

the AHS Band Room. Join us to meet current AHS Band students and parents

and have some food!


In the meantime, it will help you and us if you can fill out the Middle School

Student Information Form on our website: www.atholtonbands.org

Just click on “Middle Schools” and you’ll see the link to the form.
