RE: TEST YOUR BABY SAFETY IQ. Hi sweetie, that's an absurdly short test, so don't worry about the results :-) Anyways, I went 3 for 3, so I got you covered...Mwuh! :-*
Hello Susan, Happy day of birth to you! In a spiritual sense of course, every day is a new birth and a new occasion for zesty or gentle
growth...Love to you and Erik and your little one, xxx Gail
Hey Susan, How is everything going? I saw the new pictures on your website. Thanks for keeping all that updated. I wanted to write and wish you a Happy Birthday (sorry for the delay, I realize it was yesterday). Things here are good. I set my thesis defense date for May 18th so am excited to finish up. Sounds like everything is going well for you back there. How do you like working at the FDA? Last time we spoke you were just getting ready to start there. Anyway, gotta run. . .have to submit this manuscript today. Later, Tony
Happy birthday!I hope happy your life¡ª I graduated university yesterday. It is very sad. but my new life are coming soon. Is your baay health? tomoko
Dear Susan, Hope your birthday brings much joy and happiness. You are in our thoughts often and we wish for speedy, healthy delivery for you. Have a great day, be happy. Peace, Love & Laughter, Aunt Emma & Uncle Walter

Hey Susan, Don't worry about getting the baby out. You'll do great. You are one of the strongest-willed people that I know, and I know that when it comes time to labor, you'll be fine. I can't wait to meet Alex. (Will Alex have a middle name?) Julia
Hi Susan! Good luck with life with a newborn! I know you'll be great and really enjoy it. We'll probably be in town in August. More on that when I find out! Love, Kat
HI Susan, how are you doing? How are you feeling? Have you had the baby yet? How is Erik doing? Things here are going well. Ted got a job near Houston so we'll be moving to Texas in mid-July. We'll have the new baby then so things will be pretty hectic but we're looking forward to being able to buy a house, become "adults", etc... all the best, Micheline
The cold weather still has been continuing. So please keep your body warm. I`m looking forward to knowing more happy news. Take care of yourself. Tamami
hi susan,
great pix, wow Alex will be here soon. you must be so excited and you look great! are you still working or are you on maternity leave? hope all is well, rose
I am looking forward to meeting Alexander too! How are you feeling Susan? Do you feel all set? Did you find places to put all your shower gifts? Did you get the bassinette together? If so, how does it look? Did you figure out how to connect it to the bed? Did you get everything washed? Susan did you check on whether or not the hospital has a lactation consultant to help you and Alex with the art of breastfeeding? Mormor Read

You grow big now !! you know the sex of the baby yet? Vivian
In WDW we saw many children. they are very cute!! You shold visit WDW with your child again!! But You have to take many phtos of a child with Disny character. I am surprised your photo!! Your baby is very big! bye Tomoko take care!
I wish you the best everyday!!! vivian
Hi Susan! You're getting just that much closer to the big date. I read on your webpage that the name might be Alexander? That's a cute name. I've had a couple of friends here who've just had babies, and they also named their sons Alexander. Very cool, by the way, playing the violin for little baby Read. How are you holding up? Julia
Dear Susan and Erik,
thanks God. it seems not too bad. Mom will try to call you today or tomorrow. take good care. Love Dad
Baby kicking? How exciting! What does that feel like? I can't even imagine. When did you say was the official due date? I've always heard that when a mom-to0be talks or plays music to the unborn child, the fetus actually moves to the rhythmn of the sounds. Have you noticed anything like that before? I saw on (remember her?) Sharon's website that she and Adam just had a baby girl Therese Marie about two weeks ago. In case you wanted to see her website is http://www.sharonandadam.com. Julia
You must be running around with a huge tummy by now... Or at least it should be visible that you are carrying a child beneath your heart. How is everything going? I hope you and your child are doing great. And Eric too of course. It would be so cool! I could move close to you guys, and we'd see each other almost as often as we used to. Not quite, but almost. Of course Eric, would have to take care of the baby, while we went out ;-). Hope you are well, Love and a great big hug to you, Eric and the embryo (have you decided on a name yet?), Louise
I wanna see your baby earlly! I think now it is very cold in Washington DC. take care.... Tomoko
Keep me posted on when the one month party will be. I think that's a great idea! I definitely want to come up and see you after the baby is born. Right now, no doubt, you've got a million things you need to take care of before Alex is born. You've settled on the name Alex then? I can't wait to see you, Erik, and your soon-to-be-here son! Take care. Julia
How are you feeling? Still feeling good and getting around ok? I noticed there were tons of babies out on the streets over the weekend--they're like mushrooms, they come out in the nice weather after a rain. Wow, it's only a month and a half. So soon... Thanks for the birthday wishes- Love, Lucinda
Hi Susan,
I was in New York City for work at our Trade Show all week. Sorry to have missed you. I have a gift for the baby that I will bring to the Farm. Bet you had oodles of fun opening baby things. Hope you are all well and happy. Love, Sue
How's the pregnancy going? Don't feel embarrassed about talking to your stomach, it relaxes the baby and keep rubbing your stomach a lot-one of my colleagues did this all the time and her baby was the sweetest and quietest baby! Sharon
JAN 2004
Hi Susan, Happy New Year! I'm so glad you and the baby are doing well. Are you guys settling in DC ok? Keep me posted on the baby. =) If I am there I will give you a call. I may have to go again for work sometime. Just not sure when. Have a great day!! Monica
You're getting huge! Well, not really that huge, but much bigger than last time I saw you! I want to get to DC before you have the kiddo, so I can see you in your full pregnant glory.
I was looking at the list of names--I like Nicholas, and I like including Chen: Nicholas Chen Read? I like Sven too, but "Sven Chen" as middle names is a little much. Have you heard from your parents about Chinese names yet? We'll have to start a little troop for all the kids. Be careful on the ice--I assume it's as cold and nasty there as it is here. I hear pregnancy throws your balance off. Take care of yourself--love, Lucinda
Hi, Susan, Nice to hear from you! I am glad that you are having your first child - you are surely way ahead of me! I hope that working in FDA is a lot of fun for you. I assume that your husband is also working in Maryland? Happy Chinese New Year! Wenying
I visited your website - it is nicely done. Good job! Don't be concerned with career - the majority of people are family-oriented. Have fun with your boy when he is born! Take care! Wenying
Hi Susan, How are you? Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. Have you picked a name yet? I've always liked the name Ryan, but I have 2 cousins with the name. I was just looking at your xmas pix and pregnancy suits you well. Anyways, gotta run. Hope you are doing fine. Rose
Dear Susan, Thanks for your message. Good to hear that you had a nice holidays, except for the scare on the stairs--glad to hear that you and Baby X are still doing fine. It is really is cruel of nature to throw your body all out of balance, just when you're trying your best to take care of yourself. Seems like there oughta be better way to deal with this whole baby thing... Sounds like you're dealing with it well though. I would be curious to see pictures, to see how you've grown. Nice to have an excuse for gaining weight during Christmas! Better get back to work. Take care of yourself! Anne
Dear Susan and Erik:
I am ting-ting, We are missing you so much.We are ready to join the Chiese new year.Welcome to Taiwan next time and wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. P.S Wish you Have a cute baby!
DEC 2003
hi guys, Its been a little while. I hope things are going well. Susan, you must be big by now! I guess you must still be working on names. I bet that's kind of fun. Think of how many times people will say that name over they course of your kid's life! So happy new year. Keep us posted about the baby, Eliot
Susan, How are you feeling? I have been crying for 10 minutes looking at these beautiful sonograms! Did you know that Stacey is 8 weeks pregnant? How exciting for both of you! Here's the name I'm giving my son: Nathaniel Douglas Anyway, take care and keep us updated on your progress. Good to hear from you, Sharon Hogue-Ali
Hello, Erik. Your baby seems to grow favorably. Do you know which your baby is a boy or girl? Or, don't you want to know? Name of my baby is TOMOYOSHI. The KANJI (Chinese character) of his name is a little old-fashioned, although the reading is not old. KANJI of TOMO means Morning, Dynasty..., YOSHI means Justice, Morality...I named him TOMOYOSHI by SEIMEIHANDAN which is a fortune-telling came from China. Some of Japanese people have believed the fortune-telling. The fortune-telling is justified with numbers of lines and dots of KANJI of name. Take it easy. Kj
Dear Ms. Susan, Congratulations¡ª How have you been? I was really glad to hear your happy news. I hope you give birth to a cheerful little baby. When is your baby going to be born? Actually, I have been trying to see your homepage but I can`t it at all. Please let me know , if you know the cause, because I would like to see it. I`m looking forward to your reply. In Japan, it is getting colder and colder day by day. Please take care of yourself. Please send my best wishes to your husband. Sincerly yours. Tamami Higuchi
Dear Susan, Good to hear from you! That is so exciting that you're going to have a boy. Are you feeling OK? I bet Erik is thrilled. How do you feel about having a boy? It's good to have enlightened mothers to raise boys so I'm very glad for you, and him! Have you thought about boy names yet? See you soon?!
Love, Lynn

So..... It's baby time! And a boy. Coooooool. I'm really happy for the two of you, and can picture the both of you as great parents. Just think ! You will be mommy and Erik will be daddy. ( or other terms of endearment what has you) I bet you can't wait to get on with being a mom. What I mean is, you can really start wanting to just meet your little one- you just want him out of there after a while. Your like- okay my belly is huge, I think it's time see this kid face to face! And then you still have to be preggo for another 20 weeks. But do not despair! Just do what I did- buy yourself one of those long body pillows ( great support by the way) and name it Mr.Pillow. Proceed to cuddle only with Mr.Pillow everynight, until Erik sulkily watches as Mr. Pillow takes over his place in bed. Not becuase you don't like Erik or anything, but, as the belly grows- Mr.Pillows' body can be bent into miraculas positions of support and comfort that a normal human males' can not acheive.
It's been so long since I talked to you, it looks like you guys are in your happy place. How is your pregnancy going? I hope you didn't have morning sickness to bad. I bet you get TONS of advice from everybody. If you ever wanna talk about anything pregnancy-wise, feel free to e-mail me. I bet you are so happy. It feels so special being able to grow someone inside of you. Kind of weird too.
So tell me what your dream for the little guy is. Of course it is to let him be whatever he wants to and all that- but what do you wish he would do? For example- i wish that Olen would be the first human to explore the surface of mars. Man I love outer space! I get excited about it every time i think that it might be possible for me to travel there some day. Okay okay, i have to go to bed now, but say hi to erik for me and give your expanding belly a little pet too. Also..
The top ten most usefull tips for the pregnant woman.
( or, at least what i learned while preggo)
#10 you gots to take your vitamins
#9 you gots to take your excersize
#8 don't let anyone intimidate you with their gnarly labor stories
#7 even if they look to small- buy the tiniest clothes possible for your newborn
#6 find yourself a swimming pool- and float around in it just to feel weightless (not to mention great excersize)
#5 fruit+tofu+yogurt+juice smoothies every morning. gives you great energy, and it's healthy
#4 Do not be swayed easily by an authors strong opinion on how birthing can or should be. I've found alot of books on labor and delivery to be very much made up upon someones own personal opinion, and not compatible with evreyones veiw points.
#3 Mr.Pillow
#2 After testing the waters of the cocoa butter myth, i have found it to be tottaly NOT helpful in preventing stretch marks. Alot of my girlfriends that had babies before me would show me their stretch marks whilst uttering." yes, I used the cocao butter everyday..." So i used something else. ST. Ives collagin and elastin lotion. I didn't get any stretch marks.. But i've also heard that stretch marks are actually cuased from lack of protien in the skin?
And #1 is....
Just be happy. Don't panic about anything, becuase everything will be fine. Things won't be so different A.B.( after birth) They'll be even better.
good night and much love from me olen and chris.
Hello you two!
Wanted to drop a line and give a hello and thanks for the season's
greetings. I've had a bit of turbulence this year, but from the few
reports I hear back it sounds like things are doing well for you too
(and a little sueric is on the way!!) Very exciting news. Have your
selves a very merry christmas and of course the obligatory happy new
years as well... --chris

From kyouko Yoshimoto What a wondeerful news you and Mr.Read gave me! I believe firmly that you'll receive a visit from the stork in spring ,also he or she will be a healthy and cute baby. congratulations! in Japanese is "omedetougozaimasu!" I'd like to say " Susan, omedetougozaimasu! " over and over again. I think staying at home with your child for several years is the best for child, but also I understand your afraid of losing your career. In Japan recently a good system for working mother with baby is created; for two years after a childbirth the mother's position is guranteed. So my son's wife is staying at home with children by child-care leave law. Her case is rather lucky, most parttimer mothers are not always gurantteed. I'll tell Mr.Matsuzono( he is very kind for me) your message. I'm waiting your baby like my grandbaby. Please take good care of yourself. Oct,31th Dear Susan
Hi Susan, It' s probably better to worry more than less (although I'll bet no one would agree with me). I didn't worry at all and boy, was I caught off guard! Don't worry about reading. Obviously you need to have a car seat but we had Alea sleeping in a little Fisher Price vibrating thing and she was fine in that by our bed for the first two months. I'm glad to hear that your parents will be there to help out in the beginning. Personally, those first six weeks will be the toughest you will ever experience and from then on, it gets better. It's not just the loss of sleep but the fact that you have no idea what to do. I think that is a good time to just take everything slowly (including healing - take it easy, easy, easy and let everyone baby you) and reassure yourself that your baby will be fine and that five years from then, you'll look back and laugh at your worries. I'll try and send pics of Alea again on Monday. all the best, Mich
OCT 2003 Hi Susan! Wow! Those are great news! Congratulations!! My parents, Niko and I are very happy for you. How do you feel? Are you nervous? What is it like? Eric must have danced all over your house, when he heard! You must tell me everything! From your first thoughts, when you realized you were pregnant, until now. Can you feel it yet. When will you know if its a boy or a girl? Wow... There's a lot of responsibility coming towards you. And I hope that you are really happy! Now that I come to think of it, we'll have to see that we come to live in the same neighborhood, when you get the next child... There's no way I can catch up with you with this one, and I somehow have the feeling, that, if the german men continue being as retarded as they are, your kids'll some day have to play with Niko's kids instead of mine... But I'm still hoping... Maybe... Love, Louise
Hi Susan! I've finally got a moment to breathe. First of all - how fascinating! I'm referencing the photo of baby Susan-Erik. I can definitely make out the little limb buds. I still can't believe you're pregnant. :-) Julia
Hi Susan! Congratulations on your new job!!! I knew you would gt the job...they would be crazy to pass up on you! You are so talented and such a wonderful person to work with! I am so happy for you! Also CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!!! Wow!! New job and now new mother to be!!! I am so excited for you and Erik! Your child is so lucky to have you guys as parents! Wow how cool! Susan take care of yourself and if there is ever anything I can do for you let me know! Say Hi to Erik and once again Congrats!!! Hope to see you someday!! Take Care! John
Congratulations! I told Peekey (and forwarded your email) - her response was "That was speedy"! Some names never die. Best, Ian
Dear Susan, How wonderful (that was quick!). Congratulations on both counts but especially on the baby. Glad you are doing so well. All the best, Marianne
Hey Susan1 How are you feeling and doing? Has the shock worn off yet? Have you come up with any more names? Julia
That's wonderful news Susan! I'm so happy for you! I just know you two will make great parents because you are both very loving and giving people. Best wishes! Kathy Moran
Congratulations!....I'm so jealous...
Yeah!!! That is so exciting. I am so happy for you!!!!
Congratulations!!! That is wonderful news. I am so excited for you.
Have you told Marie and Kathy? I don't want to ruin the news by telling them before you had a chance. Wow!! Awesome!! Love, Aunty Monica =)
Women have been having babies for centuries, so we do a really good job of it. Relax into being pregnant and enjoy the experience. Take time to connect with your son each day. Get to know him starting now. When you are doing the hypnobaby exercises, talk to your son's spirit while you are in the alpha state. Tell him how happy you are to be his mom. How excited you are about becoming a family. Stuff like that. Mormor Read

Wow, Susan, congratulations on your pregnancy!! how exciting!! Your website looks great. When are you coming for a CA visit? Tanya
HEY! OSCAR IS A NICE NAME TOO! If Grandma Lena were alive she would tell you that Oscar was Grandpa Walter's favorite name. Honest. Also, my daughter Lea Marie marks the fifth generation of women on the Eklof side with that middle name. Grandma Lena also favored the name Luther. I tell you all this because whilst I was pregnant with Anna May I called her up and asked her all about family names, and what did she think? Jim and I are so happy for the both of you, parenthood is a wonderful part of life and the big picture as we (try to) know it. Will endevor to keep in touch. Loves, Oscar
Hi Susan! Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! I'm very excited for you and Erik! I'll be sure to go to the website often to check in on how you're doing. Tracy Lo
Susan, Congratulations on the news of your baby. You will be the first of our little troop to have a baby... Will you put the little one in Scouts, so he or she can make life-long friends like we did? How are you feeling; any morning sickness? Man, y'all eat a lot of Chinese and how weird that you should get two fortunes...Hope you enjoy your pregnancy, Amber

Hi Susan,
I love your sonogram and I love the name grace! I've been so busy with college! I can't wait for Christmas Vacation. I'll write you again soon. I love your web page! Rachel :)
|
Dear Susan, Congratulations about the baby! You guys must be so excited. I haven't had time yet to read through your whole website to get all the details, but I'll be checking that out. Well, I did read so far as to
notice that "Ann" was suggested as a middle name--in my completely unbiased opinion, that's a great middle
name, though I prefer an e on the end...Okay, better get back to work. Take care of yourself, Mommy! And say hi to Erik for me--Anne Knecht
Hey Susan,
Its a boy, thats great news!!!!! You two must be so excited to finally know. Also, what a relief it must be telling your employer. So, how are you feeling these days? Baby kicking around alot? Anyways, hope all is well and take care of yourself. Talk with you soon. Rose
Thanks for the info Sue. I'll go there and check it out. hope everthing is well with the "Three"of you , Tracy
How cool! That's funny that you initially were hoping for a girl. I also thought for sure that you would have a little girl. Either way, that's great! Julia
