One down....
Freedom maybe didn't learn that much on Friday night against an overmatched CB West squad.  To the team's credit, they executed the game plan and got the job done.

Whitehall will be a much stiffer test on Friday as LVC games get underway.  While the big dogs (Parkland and Liberty) got knocked off by quality opponents, the rest of the LVC looked pretty dominant with the exception of Allen.  Our focus is on the Whitehall game, but I just might program my DVR to catch the Liberty - Parkland game.  One of those teams starts the season with two losses.

Hope to see a big crowd at BASD stadium for the home opener.  Is the Riot Squad still out there, or will a new group be stepping up this season?

It's here
Freedom's 2008 season kicks off at CB West in Doylestown on Friday night.

Freedom's has its highest preseason rankings in memory:  Big Ticket  - 6th in the viewing area,  Morning Call 3rd - in LVC,  Express Times - 6th in Area.

But... Freedom also faces its toughest schedule in a while.  Freedom drops CCHS and Allen and picks up Whitehall and Emmaus in crossover LVC games.  In addition,  Freedom plays projected LVC challengers Parkland, Easton and Emmaus away.  Freedom's schedule, which in the past got tougher as the season went on,  is now challenging pretty much every week.

The first test is CB West.  CB West's first scrimmage was against Parkland - and there were mixed reports - but the general consensus is that CB West is an improved team that should offer stiff competition.  After losing the past two openers to Freedom, the Bucks will definately be looking for revenge.  Should be a good one.

see ya Friday.

1st Scrimmage
This Saturday (8/17),  the team had their first taste of live competition as  Central Catholic visited BASD stadium for a scrimmage.  The weather was perfect, and both teams looked ready to challenge in the LVC.  Freedom scored touchdowns in both sections of the scrimmage (set # of plays and with down markers).  Freedom had a nice mix of running and passing, with Eddie Mateo and Jermel Lee both gaining nice yardage on the ground.  Central moved the ball well at times, but was unable to score.  It was obviously early season, with penalities, bad snaps, fumbles and missed assignments for both teams.

Overall, a good start - but also providing areas to work on the next couple of weeks.

Next scrimmage, Thursday 6:00PM at Pleasant Valley - see the standing/schedule/stats page for directions.

From Coach Roeder...

To the Freedom Football Family,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season.

In preparing this letter, the first thing I did was to look at my remarks from last year at this time (Jan 3, 2008). We were coming off an Eastern conference championship and a school record for wins in a season. In that letter we established the goal and the mindset of wanting to achieve MORE!

It is safe to say that WE accomplished that goal.  In looking back at last year there are many obvious and tangible examples of how we were successful in this endeavor. Accomplishments we should be proud of include another new school record for wins, the school’s first playoff wins, unprecedented individual recognition for our players on the state and local level, and numerous team and individual changes in the Freedom football record book.

In continuing to reflect on this past year, I realized that 2008 was more than just numbers. We did MORE in many ways and we did take Freedom football to a new level.  Improvements were made in many areas that don’t always show up on a stat sheet or in the newspaper. The game day program, booster club involvement, the bonfire, alumni participation and overall community support are just a few areas where I feel we made substantial gains in moving our program forward.

These achievements came as a result of the hard work of many people. I would like to personally thank our players, coaches, support staff, the Freedom HS administration and faculty, the band and cheerleaders, Gridiron Club, spaghetti dinner volunteers, Patriot club and all of those associated with the Freedom football family for their contributions to our success.

It is now time to move forward again and continue the climb. Many of the names and faces will be different next year, but the philosophy of OUR WAY will not change. I am sure that we all agree that the job is not done and there are more steps to take. We as a program must continue to focus on improving in everything we do. I have challenged our players and staff to take up the motto “COUNT ON ME”. We are looking for those people that we can count on in 2009.

Thanks for your support and let’s work to make every day, A Great Day to be a Patriot!
