Ginger's Home Page

Since Yissachar is allergic to my fur and dander, effective October 1999, I have moved to Norfolk, VA to live with Jeffrey's parents.

MEOW! Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow. Hiss! Growl!

Purr purr purr purr...

I adopted my person (Jeffrey) in 1991 from the Montgomery County SPCA after an unsuccessful adoption.  You see, when we met, Jeffrey was mistakenly told that the apartment complex where he was living did not allow cats.  I was upset, but wanting to live in a home and not just a cage, I adopted another family.  It didn't work out, so they brought me back to the MCSPCA, where Jeffrey was volunteering.  When he heard that I was coming back.  He made a nice sign that said I was adopted; he took me home that day.

My Adventure

While living with Jeffrey in Silver Spring, I had an adventure that I would like to tell you about. It all began one Shabbos. I decided to go outside exploring. Keep in mind that I am an indoor cat. When no one was looking, and the door was open, I saw my chance and darted through into the outside world. Freedom!!!

But wait, what is all of this out here? Where is the soft blue carpet? Where is that annoying little Peppercorn? Where are the children who try to pull my fur? Where are my people? But most important, Where was my food?

After the initial shock wore off and I got my bearings straightened out. I went exploring. I tried to get home at night, but the door was closed and nobody heard my knocking. I did the best I could to find a comfy place to sleep.

Over the next couple of days, I ate whatever I could find that appeared to be food, drank water wherever I could find it, and slept to my heart's content. Occasionally I would awaken and hear what sounded like people calling my name. Sometimes it even sounded like my main person - Jeffrey, but it would stop and I would drift back into my normal state -- sleep.

One evening, I heard my person's voice getting closer and closer. Then from behind some bushes, he appeared. He walked cautiously towards me, sticking his hand out to let me smell it. I wasn't sure whether this was real or an illusion, but after smelling his scent, I knew that it was him. I was cautious at first. He petted me and then grabbed me. How dare he? I'm a cat and do not want to be carried against my will. He took me around to the front door and put me inside.

I was just getting used to the great outdoors. Now I am trapped in the confines of the house again. Where is the grass beneath my feet? the sky above my head? the bushes to crawl through?

But what is this? My blue carpet. My annoying little cat. My people.

Oh, I'm sorry, what was I talking about? Oh yes, sleep. I think I need to sleep. Zzzzz zzz zzz.....
