Our History:

Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester was organized in 1973 as an affiliate of the Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc.  Since its inception, LVGW has been consistently successful in attracting a number of volunteer tutors to work with adult students in need of basic reading, writing, comprehension and other communication skills, including English as a second language.

Every year, more than 125 students in the Greater Worcester area take advantage of LVGW program and services.  Each week, over 80 volunteer tutors provide confidential, individualized one to one training, enabling students to reach personal goals and enrich their lives.  Many students apply the skills they acquire, through LVGW tutoring, to further their careers.

LVGW is the only private provider of free, one to one literacy tutoring services in the Greater Worcester area.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to build a more literate community.

We are a non profit supported by trained volunteers who provide confidential, free, individualized, year-round lessons in either basic reading or English for speakers of other languages.
