The Scarecrow (Live) My arrangement of one of my all time favorite songs performed by Anne Hills with the String Section The Bluegrass Quartet (Live) A performance of my quartet, which is really a quintet (and not bluegrass!) I'm playing the solo on this one Big Ted One of the classic Incredible String Band songs. A new treatment. Coquette played by Zazous. Joe Ellis plays the first guitar solo and Wanamaker Lewis plays the second guitar solo. Phil D'Agostino plays bass and I play violin The video features Maria del Mar Bonet singing El Pais Secret in Sept 2007. The song is my setting of Robert Graves' poem "The Secret Land" translated into Catalan by Lucia Graves. The first four pieces plus the video clip were recorded live in concert on Dec 8, 2006 in Doylestown, PA featuring me with Larry Major, Jen Bolcar - violins, Geoff Baker - viola and Sachino Tzinadse - cello, George Vilsmeier - French horn, Joe Stefano - bassoon, Beth Vilsmeier - clarinet, Mary Ellen Corwin - oboe, and Carol Copland - flute. Beatlesque Quartet A new piece for string quartet based on my idea of what the Beatles might have sounded like if they were a string quartet rather than a rock band. Brindaban A favorite Mike Heron Song. I copped the arrangement from the record Cap Vespra en Deiá A new piece for the entire nonet of strings and woodwinds. Based on three traditional Mallorquin melodies. This piece was wriiten under the auscipes of teh Independence Foundation who gave me a fellowship in 2004 to travel to Mallorca to learn the island's indigenous folk music. There are a couple of moments when the group played too loud for the recorder, so there is a tiny bit of clipping. Because Video A short clip from the concert playing a classic Beatles song. Thanks to my pal Kevin Crader who shot it with his digital camera. Music for My Father A piece for string quartet I wrote in 2005 for my father's 70th birthday. La Balenguera Back by Popular Demand! Sung by Claudia Balant K-I-N-K-Y A station ID for WXPN-FM in Philadelphia recorded way back around 1980. It's a parody on a song by the Blue Sky Boys. Part of the reason I believe my wife decided to marry me is that, shortly after we started dating, some guy tried to hit on her by bragging that he had written this song. "No you didn't." she said "My boyfriend wrote it!" Ah fame! Breton Dance For Celtic Harp and String Ensemble. Played by The Musica 2000 Strings (and me) under the direction of Rosalind Erwin. I wrote this to play for the Musica 2000 Outreach program for the elementary schools in the Central Bucks School District. The ensemble was made up of 3 first violins, 2 second violins, viola, cello and double bass. I learned the main theme from an early Clannad album. Coleman's March With Freyda Epstein. This is from a concert at the Cherry Tree in Philadelphia around 1999. I am playing a violin strung with special strings tuned an octave lower than standard violin strings. Shortly after this concert, Freyda moved to California and not long after that she was tragically killed in a car accident in Virginia. This was the last time I ever saw her.
