James Warren York learned his trade at the Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory, and then opened a factory of his own in Grand Rapids, Mich.  This cornet is made from silver plated brass with a gold wash bell.  The bell itself is decorated with gold highlights around the maker's information, as well as a full ring around the bell's edge.

In the mouthpipe, the first tuning slide is used to tune, and to change keys from Bb to A.  The second slide in the mouthpipe is a change for high and low pitch.  The cornet is shown in high pitch, with the optional low pitch slide beside it.

This instrument was found relatively close to the factory in northeastern Wisconsin.
