The bell is engraved: "Lyon and Healy/Makers/Chicago/U.S.A/Couturier Model" The mouthpiece reads "Couturier Co./Patented/M/3627"
It
is a dual bore, with the upper inner starting at the mouthpiece and gradually getting larger. The mouthpiece, inner
slide AND outer slide are all serial numbered.
There are no ferrules in the tuning slide, just an end to the plating
with embossed "fake ferrules".
I have determined that this trombone was made in 1924-1926 since Lyon & Healy bought Couturier late in 1923,
and had adopted a different serial numbering scheme by the time they applied for a saxophone patent early in 1927.
This horn came from Indiana, where it was probably made in LaPorte before Lyon & Healy sold the company
assets to Holton.
