The bell is engraved: "Lyon and Healy/Makers/Chicago/U.S.A"
Given the serial number, it was undoubtably made in the ex-Couturier factory in LaPort, Indiana.
This may have been intended to be an orchestral horn, although the typical small bore for the period and the lack
of any 3rd valve slide adjustment may just as well indicate that this was for jazz usage.
Its tone in C is clear and penetrating. It loses some of its presence when changed to Bb.
I have also determined that this trumpet was made in 1924-1926 since Lyon & Healy bought Couturier late in 1923,
and had adopted a different serial numbering scheme by the time they applied for a saxophone patent early in 1927.
