I FIND MY SELF LAUGHING!
It is early in the morning ( 12:45 Am ) on July 13, 2004 and I am alone with my thoughts.
It is wonderfully quiet here with my wife and all the children in bed or away from home.
I FIND MYSELF LAUGHING at what I have been thinking because it seems to have depth and yet it is about our lack of depth
-- a strange paradox! I have been thinking about our learned and wise men in this nation and around the world, and how much
we have been able to accomplish during the short span of life that this earth has existed. My thoughts have turned to all
our academic prowess and our self assured wisdom ( or is it wisdumb ) and how we parade ourselves and others around as educated
and sophisticated scholars. It is at this point that I CANNOT HELP BUT LAUGH!
From academia my mind drifts to all our marvelous inventions and our technical advances throughout the years, and how rapidly
we are advancing in that area and once again I FIND MYSELF LAUGHING!
You see - we are finite creatures and extremely limited in intelligence, creativity, and all the other things that we hold
as marks of achievement - yet it has been estimated that the most intelligent men ever to live on this planet use only one
tenth of one percent of their brain power. ONE TENTH OF ONE PERCENT! This is a ludicrous figure. Imagine what could
be achieved if we were able to harness 10% or 20% or 50% or more. We are barely touching the surface of our capabilities and
yet we swagger and boast as though we had actually achieved great things! THE PICTURE MAKES ME CHUCKLE TO MYSELF and in the
back of my mind I can see how ridiculous we must look to God. As a matter of fact - the Bible says that "the foolishness
of God is wiser than the wisdom of man." It further states that "Every man at his VERY BEST is ALTOGETHER vanity."
Consider God now in comparison. God is infinite! Infinity has no beginning or end to it. It is without measure. It
is incomprehensible. It is plainly out of our reach. To illustrate God's superiority over man consider that God has such vast
wisdom that He knows every thought and act ever thought or done from before time began on earth and beyond into the vast ages
of eternity. There is not one particle or iota of knowledge that has ever gotten past Him - nor will there ever be!
In the words of A. W. Tozer, "God knows everything past, present and future instantly and without any effort." God doesn't
ever have to guess about anything, is never surprised about anything and is never alarmed about anything. In addition, there
is nothing that He could ever learn because he already possesses knowledge of everything. He knows us from the very
first spark of life in the fertilization of an egg to the very last breath we draw, and He knows this in intricate detail
in the life of every person who is alive, has ever lived and will live in the future, and He knows it better than anyone else.
There is never any knowledge that can enter into God from outside of Him because He is thecenter of all knowledge in the universe.
HOW TRAGICALLY WE PALE IN COMPARISON TO HIM!
Is it any wonder then that this world is in such a mess?! Men have somehow begun to think that God is a relic of the past
and has no bearing on their future. These men are heralded as great scholars and thinkers in our time by multitudes of misinformed,
uneducated and unspiritual people. Even among those who deem themselves to be spiritual our concepts of God are tragically
shallow or completely vague in comparison to who He really is! He is more than good all the time or colossal, more than
mighty and strong, matchless beyond our wildest dreams and imaginings, He is perfect in all His ways. Perfect knowledge and
wisdom, Perfect compassion, Perfectly just in all His decisions, and Perfect love. All the adjectives existing in all the
languages of the world arranged in their very best sequence would fall far short of describing one single thing about God
adequately. If I were to continue this thought to its conclusion it would never reach a conclusion because all that
could ever be written about God would, at last, have to be inconclusive!
Excuse me while I LAUGH AGAIN! God is so wonderful and awesome and phenomenal and - OH WHAT'S THE USE?! I GIVE UP!
One thing that I know for sure about Him is that He has loved me out of my sin and ignorance and into His wonderful family
through His Son Jesus Christ! "I once was blind, but now I see." AMAZING GRACE! Our God is an AWESOME God!
Don't worry if your intellect can't comprehend God. Your heart will once you come to know Him, and as you go deeper with
Him -- YOU WILL LAUGH WITH ME!
