The actual construction work began sometime in 1866. During this time a turntable, shops, and a building to house the offices were constructed in Riverton. The building of the track, tunnels, and railroad beds also  commenced at this time. It took about two years to lay roughly 6 1/2 miles of track from today's round pool in Greenup (old E.K.R.Y turntable) to Argillite.

I once had a man ask me about the location of the Redman Lodge in Argillite. It was a place where passengers and gentlemen of the area could go for a drink and a story or two. Several sources state that it was a building right next to the track in Argillite. I asked my grandparents about the location of the lodge and both stated that they remembered it being on the second floor of the old white church house in Argillite. I recall finding quite a few old bottles around it when it was leveled back in 1981. In the picture below, you see behind the young man on the speeder the white church house in the background, the depot right behind him, the Kiser house (which still stands) to the left, and in the distance, a two story home which belonged to Bill Riggles.  When I was a young boy, I would play down at Riggles' Grocery Store and every now and then, H.O. Riggles would let me play with a couple of the old EKRY Telegraphs and a conductor's hat that belonged to his Uncle Bill.
