
Anja (Seehrich-) Caldwell, the president of eco ipso,
is an architect trained in Germany and the United States.
Since she relocated to the Washington Metropolitan Region from Stuttgart in 1997, green building
and sustainable design have been her professional focus.
She was one of the first LEED Accredited Professionals in the District of Columbia in
2001 and has managed high performance projects in the region for clients like Intelsat, Marriott, University of
Maryland University College and the school district of Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland.
Anja calls herself the proud parent of Great Seneca Creek Elementary School, the first
LEED certified school in Maryland.
In 2007 Anja was appointed to the Maryland Green Building Council by Governor O'Malley. Since
then Maryland passed a LEED mandate for public buildings and schools in 2008.
Anja is a member of the core committee that developed LEED for Schools and currently serves
on the USGBC's Formal Education Committee and the Board of the Washington German School.
Anja frequently speaks at national and international conferences on the subject of high performance
design and green schools. She is the author of two books and several articles on the subject.
In 2008 Anja founded ecoipso LLC, a consulting firm that helps goverment agencies
and businesses to meet LEED and high performance design goals.
Anja Caldwell is also the founder of Ecoschools.us, a non-profit advocacy network that promotes high performance standards for educational facilities and daycare
centers at www.ecoschools.us.
