  • From Light to Dark Green Schools –
The Green Building Program of Montgomery County Public Schools

This presentation outlines the Green Building Program of MCPS in Maryland,  the 16th largest school system in the US.
MCPS moved from a high performance building standard to opening the first LEED school in Maryland and now has seven schools registered for a LEED certification by the US Green Building Council. The hour long journey travels through five years in which Anja S. Caldwell established and managed the nationally recognized program within the school system. She describes successful strategies, technology pilots, lessons learned and cost impacts associated with greening schools, or in this case a school system.

The presentation is relevant for parents, teachers, school administrators and facility managers, as well as architects and engineers working on educational facilities for K-12 and higher education. The presentation is typically followed by a Q&A session and can be combined with a tour of a LEED school.
