HISTORY OF THE
Coventry Tea Room Restaurant
The Smoke House, adjacent to the Main Dwelling,
was constructed in 1745. It currently serves as a Gift Shop which houses exclusive
handcrafted merchandise from Chester County’s local artisans. The specialty
of the Gift Shop is handcrafted Victorian style wooden Santa Claus’. The
Main Dwelling was constructed in 1790, and was founded by British settlers. The
building, now known as The Coventry Tea Room Restaurant, accommodated many different lives. It was a Colonial Farmhouse, a stop on the Underground Railroad, a doctor’s office,
and the Frederick Family’s home.
The Frederick Family purchased this estate in 1964 and it served as their residence for thirteen years. The Tea Room was opened in June of 1977 and was maintained and operated by
all members of the family. The year 2003 saw the Tea Room sold to a partnership
which will continue to carry on the traditions the Frederick’s established. Chef Thomas Frederick continues to serve
up his delicious selections daily while other members of the Frederick family still work in the restaurant.
