39 Jimmy Peak, MA

A real gem tucked away in western Massachusetts.  Fast lifts and really decent snow cover given the mild weather.  Geordie and I also ran into a thick fog similar we saw at Bousquets earlier in the day.  Fog skiing sure keeps you on toes – literally forward on your toes because a unseen patch of wet snow could slow you up quickly AND it is better to be forward if you come across an unseen mogul or valley.  What an eerie feeling – skiing into a fog bank with no idea about the terrain ahead – stay loose, stay forward and stay alert are the only guidelines for fog skiing – and for that matter – good guidelines for life.

We followed a few runs with some fun somersaults (see photos).  Don’t worry, we had our skis off as we tried to flip…here is the drill.  Run as fast as you can down a gentle incline while holding your poles off to the side; then plant your poles way in front, tuck you head and “attempt” to perform a complete somersault in your heavy ski boots.  Now, I used to be able to do this with ease….but this time I landed flat on my back in the soft, wet snow – Great Fun.  Geordie tried a few but lacked the finesse of his Dad!!

We bid Jimmy Peak a good bye after checking out the end of year specials at the ski shop and started our trip back home.  Back home with my son – that sure does have a nice ring to it – a proud Dad back home with my son!  Thanks for joining me Geordie.
