45 Magic Mt., VT

I must first pay tribute to the founder of Magic Mt., Hans Thorner, who, at the age of 95 passed away on December 27, 2003 – just a few months before my visit on March 12, 2004.  He was born in Einsiedeln, Switzerland in 1908 and came to this country in 1932.  A Swiss instructor and film producer, Hans commit much of his life to this mountain which he opened in 1960.  Thanks Hans for creating a mountain that I will proudly include on my Odyssey – I dedicate this entry and this day of my journey you.

It was a rough last mountain of this day for me however.  I somehow got on to an unopened trail (they tell me the rope fell down) and spent nearly an hour working my way between rocks, tree roots and bare grass.  I even had to take my skis off for 50 feet or so to get to some snow.  I was visualizing though, what a great run this one would have been if there had been more snow.

I loved the wall of skis that lined the hall of the offices – see the photo of Jim patiently posing for me.  I though it was a very clever wall covering for ski area offices.  Thanks Magic and I wish you well in the upcoming ski season.
