The Birth of Joy of Birth

I began my journey of supporting women thru labor in 1999 when my sister asked me to attend the birth of her daughter. Having given birth three times by then, I felt confident in my ability to help her find her way thru birth.

After that I was hooked! I went on to recieve my training as a Birth Doula from Penny Simkin; a co-founder of Doulas of North America (DONA), and author of many pregnancy related books. (please see my list of recommended reading)

In an effort to further support and inform women before labor, I went on to become a childbirth educator and was trained under the Birthing From Within philosophy.

I now live on the North Shore with my very supportive husband and four wonderful children.

My Philosophy

I believe that pregnancy and childbirth can be a wonderful time in a woman's life.  It can be a time of awe, wonder, appreciation, reflection and the search for your own inner-strength.  However at times it can be overwhelming and filled with confusion and/or doubt.  Whatever your feeling, you're not alone.  At any given moment in time, thousands of women around the world are giving birth to their babies.  It's something that women are made to do.

Trusting in the natural process of birth, I believe that all women birth differently and so need to prepare differently.  We all come into birth with different feelings, emotions and experiences.  And we need to find our own way through birth with loving and caring support.
