Immediate Memorial Fund Goals

Redbud Tree

Our immediate goal for the memorial fund was to plant a Redbud tree in Shiyanne's memory.  This tree, placed inside the playground area will serve as a great shady spot for the adults who accompany their children to the park.  The location of the tree is between the two benches on the far side of the playground. This is where we sat when we played there.
The Redbud tree is known for its heart shaped leaves, which will be burgundy throughout the season, and for the pink and purples flowers which bloom on the entire length of the branches, producing a spectacular display in the spring!
We have also placed a dedication stone at the base of the tree.  The stone reads "Shiyanne Thornell. This tree is dedicated to all children, in memory of the playdates she had here. When you play here, she will play with you."
The planting and dedication toke place on what would have been Shiyanne's 5th birthday, September 28th 2005 at 4pm

Long Term Memorial Fund Goal

Endicott Park Info

Playground at Endicott Park

We are working closely with the town of Danvers with a long term goal of helping to rebuild the playground.
The current playset actually consists of two structures.  A large main structure for older children, and a smaller structure geared toward play by younger children. (not seen in image) Both structures are made primarily of wood. Most wooden playstructures have a life expectancy of about 15 years.  As the Endicott Park playset has surpassed its life expectancy, plans have begun for its reconstruction.  It is our hope to be a major contributor to the fund that has been created to this end.  Therefore, any and all money remaining in Shiyanne's fund will be donated to Endicott park with the express purpose of going toward the reconstruction process.
In this way, we hope to infuse Shiyanne's memory into the new playground.  A playground she will never be able to play on, but will be a part of helping to create.
