Shiyanne was born on September 28, 2000 at 4:49 pm at Beverly Hospital to Don and Joy Thornell.  Shiyanne could light up a room with her smile.  She was a sweet, caring and joyful 4-year old who was lovingly called a pistol by her Grandmother.  She loved her friends and had the gift of gab.  Her newest thing was responding to comments with a knowing 'yy-ahhh!'  She had a sense of humor and loved tickling and playing with her brothers Sky, Darian and Kyle.  She enjoyed her doll house, Barbie dolls and tea parties with her sterling silver tea set.  A born dancer, she loved to dance for her family and walk on her tippy-toes.  Her parents fondly remember that the first thing she did when she was born was smile at her Daddy.  Her father called her "Sweetie" and her mother would call her "Lady Face".

As she was being held by Mama, Daddy, Sky, Darian and Kyle, and was surrounded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, she gently slipped from our world at 12:03 am on July 26, 2005 at Childrens Hospital in Boston, after a brief illness.

Memorial Fund Goals

One of Shiyanne's farvorite places to go was the Endicott Park playground.  She would go there for play dates with her best friends Olivia, Maggie, Michael and Melanie.  She also went there frequently after school and on weekends with her family.

Shortly after her passing, her mother made the suggestion of planting a tree in her name.  A memorial fund was established so that anyone interested in helping with this project could make a donation.  With the help of the Park Ranger in charge of Endicott Park, it was decided to plant the tree and a memorial stone inside the playground.  The tree planting and dedication ceremony was held on what would have been Shiyanne's 5th birthday, September 28, 2005 at 4pm.  As it grows this tree will provide some much needed shade for the parents and children who play there.

We continue to work closely with the town of Danvers with the long term goal of assisting with the refurbishment of the playground.  All donations left in the fund will be used for this purpose.
