U. S. Patent Awarded to Workbook
Window TM Innovative
Product Aims to Helps Kids Learn
Eco-Friendly and Fun
NEW JERSEY (August 2007)-
A New Jersey mother has turned one of her latest ideas into a reality she hopes will soon help lots of other young
children.
A former mathematics teacher - is the inventor
of an innovative educational product called Workbook
Window TM . The 18 by 12 inch lapboard turns just about any workbook into a write-on wipe-off
practice book, which is seen as a significant improvement over the traditional wipe-off books on the market today.
With this invention, children simply insert any open workbook under the clear transparent cover of the device. Children
complete their work by writing on the top cover using a dry erase marker or wipe-off crayon.
When completed, the work can easily be wiped away, allowing for another practice session.
Workbook
Window's TM unique design holds the entire workbook securely in place during the writing
and erasing stages of use. The reverse side of the learning aid serves
as a flannel felt board providing an additional play or learning surface.
The benefit of such a device is that it
allows children to repeatedly practice and sharpen just about any skill in any subject.
“Children really like being able to erase and try again. It has kept
my own children busy, and learning, for hours. It makes learning fun.”
The idea for Workbook Window TM came about as a result of the inventor’s own child’s scholastic needs. Being able to provide unlimited opportunities to practice skills proved to be the key to successful learning
very early on for the inventor’s young child. “That extra practice
is what made the biggest difference.” Initially, the learning aid was used for handwriting and tracing skills,
but later proved beneficial for most all subjects especially pre-reading, phonics, and mathematics.
Designed
for young children, the teaching tool would be especially helpful for direct instruction, home school, tutoring, elementary
and special education, including ABA.
By safeguarding the original material, the Workbook Window TM will relieve teachers of the need to make multiple copies of materials for their students. Educators
can save time and money by conserving paper and helping to preserve the environment.
Aside from educators, parents will also appreciate this “green” product’s cost effectiveness, enabling
siblings to share – and recycle - workbook materials.
Instructional templates, similar in form
to a workbook page, called WorkMats have also been created to complement the invention. Intended for direct instruction – when a teacher
and a student work together one on one – each WorkMat is designed to target a specific skill. The WorkMat acts as the framework for the lesson allowing the teacher to vary the specifics of the example
presented to the student. This enables the instructor to present virtually hundreds
of questions using a single WorkMat in what traditionally might have taken a bookshelf full of workbooks to accomplish. “The intensity of instruction using Workbook Window TM and the WorkMat really facilitates skill development.”
Workbook Window TM, which has recently been awarded a U. S. patent is currently
