Frances Dorrance Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archeaology

"An Island of Primative Culture
in a Sea of Modern Barbarism"

Chapter 11

Welcome to the Frances Dorrance Chapter of the S.P.A We are a non-profit organization comprised of local amateurs, collectors, avocationalists and professionals who are dedicated to the study of local history, State history and prehistory. The Society accepts new members regardless of age, professional background, education or experience. We invite all persons who are interested in archaeology to inquire or join the group.

What do we offer?

1) A series of monthly meetings throughout the year on various historical or archaeological topics by a host of professional and local personalities .

2) A summer open house and picnic at our archaeological site on the Susquehanna River.

3) An opportunity for members to participate in a professionally supervised excavation. These members are taught the current field methods and scientific understanding of a real archaeological dig and gain hands on experience identifying artifacts
and how they relate to past cultures of the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania.

Meetings are open to the general public and everyone is welcome. They are usually held in the Municipal Building on Main St. in Duryea, Pennsylvania and are publicized in the local newspaper.

We invite anyone to inquire about membership. Dues are $10.00 a year and membership entitles you to participate in our monthly meetings and our professionally supervised excavation along the banks of the Susquehanna River near Pittston, Pa.
