COSMETIC RESTORATIONS-LAMINATES AND
PORCELAIN CROWNS
Porcelain laminates (veneers) and all-porcelain
crowns are the most natural-looking restorations dentistry can offer. With proper care they can last up to 15 years although
the average lifespan is 7 years. Traditional crowns that have a metal backing behind the porcelain are much stronger but often
do not have as natural an appearance.
Do not bite into the following objects:
-any non-food items
-plastic bags
-sewing thread
-ice
-hard candy
-nut shells
-pens or pencils
-bones
-popcorn kernels
Individuals with very strong bites
may need to sleep wearing a night guard to prevent breakage.
Some restorations may need to be changed
from a laminate to a crown.
Some teeth may be sensitive at first.
In rare cases a root canal treatment may be necessary to relieve sensitivity.
It may take several weeks for the gums
to return to their normal position.
