Good, you have made it this far.  Please be advised that when you take the above link to the US Sailing homepage the next button you may wish to push is on your left, Introduction to Racing (three down).   This has the information you will need to take the test.    The test is found by clicking the button on the horizontal bar at the top of the page - Online Tests.  Take the Sailboat Racing Test.   Hope this helps...J

  1. This class of racing is intended to train future crew and skippers of larger sailboat races sponsored by the yacht club (like the CCYR race) including interclub races in this class.   As such, participation will be limited at the discretion of the race committee (minimum of three – Yacht Club and MMA participation).
  2. The principal idea is to educate not eliminate.  No trophy is anticipated at this point although statistics will be kept on skippers and crew who participate.   That is a float plan will be required of each skipper/crew.
  3. Safety is paramount.

1.        Both boats will be expelled from a race in the event of a collision.

2.       Both skippers will require re-certifying prior to rejoining the races as skipper.

3.       Skipper of the colliding boat can be held liable for damages.

  1. Open to all 16 (16 through 18 require “hold harmless” parental signature and will be limited to crew at the discretion of the Race Committee) and over from Yacht Club and MMA.

2008 Racing Schedule:

  • Begin 2:00 Thursday June 26nd and every Thursday thereafter - weather permitting - until August ?.   A
  • The exception being the week of the Castine Classic Yacht Races - end of July, early August.   Will provide information as available on this site.
  • Colgate 26 Bragging Bowl will be held in Castine again?

Please Note:

Qualifications are for one season and can be renewed at the discretion of the Certification Committee after the candidate successfully completes that year’s MMA Safe Boating Exam.
