Taurus Models/Trout Creek Engineering 20' Ore Cars

These kits were an absolute blast to build.  Two thumbs up to the designers.  I built these as a three pack, and am about 95% done.  I took a break in the construction and redirected my efforts at the module project.  I got a little tired at the sheer number of NBW's !

Customizing a Bachmann Boxcar

Bachmann has done tremendous things with their introduction of affordable 1/4 " scale narrow gauge models.  Not only are they inexpensive but they are high quality runners that can be easily customized to match your modeling needs.

Options abound in On30 and this customization reflects my personal choices.  I have selected On3 couplers set at On3 coupler height- the Bachmann models come with HO couplers at HO coupler height.  I have also weathered, lowered  and detailed the model.

The decals are custom made by Joel Brum.  If you are interested in some drop me an email and I'll tell you how to order some!

Finescale Railroader Magazine was sponsoring a build a critter contest, with submissions due by April 1,2005.  I picked up a two pack of these kits and split it with my father last year.  We each intended on building our own version and submitting them as a team.

My Dad is almost done with his, I broke mine.  :<.  It's been relegated to the back burner.....

Tomalco D&RGW 6000 series Flatcar

Technically not an On30 project this On3 kit was part of a jumble I picked up on Ebay: 6 kits plus or minus in 5 boxes.  There appear to be at least 3 different types of kits here based on the flatcar frame: a work gon, a pipe gon and some idler flats.
This was my introduction to Craftsman Kits and to a limited amount of scratchbuilding.  I did not document this kit step by step as I will be doing with the On30 project but I did learn several things.

Russian River 30' Reefer

Another On3 project, this was a refresher in airbrush painting and an introduction to Dry Transfers.  I purchased several sets from Clover House (see links) and chose the Tiffany Summer and Winter Car Scheme (late 1800's) for an updated early 20th century car (1916?) still in shortline service.
