MIDDLESEX COUNTY PRISON COORDINATING COMMITTEE NEWSLETTER

MCPCC met on February 7, 2007 in West Newton. Mary Ann Donaldson, Carol Winton, Tom Crowther, Lynne Sullivan, Elizabeth Woodbridge and Marjorie Moerschner were present and Mary Ann opened the meeting with prayer.

Carol has arranged for Linda Burrell, who runs the programs at Billerica in conjunction with STEP, to speak to us in May. Lee Gartenburg will speak to us in March. April will be a business meeting.

Carol will go to a Criminal Justice Policy Coalition meeting on Feb. 15, actually a subgroup meeting to discuss strategies.

Our treasury shows expenditures significantly exceeding income. It is time for MCPCC to have a fund-raising event. Tom and Lynne looked into possibilities and presented their findings to the committee. After discussion we decided on the following:

A concert by Vox One to be held on-Saturday evening, June 2nd, at

Eliot Church in Newton.

Vox One is a professional a cappella group with an established following. They have toured in this country and abroad. They sing a great mixture of standard and current songs. Their gifted arranger attends the Newton Highlands Congregational Church.

We are very pleased and excited about this, and will let you know more details in the coming months.

And there's more good news:

Tom's church, the First Church of Christ, Congregational, in Bedford, runs the New Song Coffeehouse once a month in the church. They have very kindly offered to donate to MCPCC the profits from ticket sales for the May 5 coffeehouse, which will feature the Shaw Brothers, a popular vocal and instrumental group. We thank the Bedford New Song Coffeehouse very much for their generosity!

MCPCC met again on Feb. 28 to begin to work out the logistics for

the June 2 Vox One concert. You'll be hearing more about this!

We want to thank the United Methodist Church of Newton for their large and wonderful donation of men's clothing to leaving Billerica prisoners who will be going out to job interviews.

NEXT MEETING: MARCH 14, at 7 PM. WITH LEE GARTENBURG

ALL ARE WELCOME!
