What Teens Should Know About Domestic Violence
Violence or abuse can occur between couples in dating relationships, Living together, married, separated or divorced. Be aware of the "Warning Signals of Abusive Traits" which often prove to be accurate indicators of potential abusers. 1-Heavy drinking, Experts say that between 40 and 95% of wife beatings involve drinking. 2-Physical abuse during courtship is a guarantee of later abuse. The evidence is overwhelming that after one beating there will certainly be more. As time goes on, the beatings will become more severe, and more frequent. DON'T MARRY WITH THE IDEA "I CAN CHANGE HIM." 3-Violent environments breed wife beaters. If a man grows up seeing his father regularly beating his mother he is apt to think of his wife beating as normal behavior. If he was violently abused by his parents, it is a good bet that he will be a wife-beater, a child-beater or both. 4-Cruelty to animals is a strong clue to a potential wife-beater. Any man who savagely beats a dog or other pets should be considered a potential spouse abuser. 5-An irability to handle frustration is a warning buzzer indicating future physical violence. If relatively minor problems such as missing a parking place or being jostled in a crowd always causes a man to blow his top, to scream and otherwise seriously overact to the situation, he probably will not be able to handle many of the frustrations of marriage. Wife-beaters are men who can't handle frustration and turn to violence as a solution to problems.
