Notes for Edouad Bompasse:
      Edouad' Bompasse (Edward Bumpas) was born in London, England about 1603 or 1605.  Edward died 3 February 1693 in Marshfield, New Plymouth Colony, at 89 years of age.
      He married Hannah in 1628 in New Plymouth Colony.  Hannah was born about 1607 in England.
      William Moses Jones in his Genealogy of Three Branches of the Bumpas Family indicates that Hannah may have been the daughter of Anthony Annable, who arrived at Plymouth on the ship ' Anne " in 1623.  It is said she arrived with her brother, Anthony Annable.
      Edward immigrated to New Plymouth Colony 21 November 1621 aboard the ship ' Fortune '.

Generation No. 2
 
      John Sr. Bumpas - was born June 02, 1636 in Marshfield, New Plymouth
Colony and died bef. 7 March 1715/16, in Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts,
at approximately 79 years of age. he was proved 7 June 1715 and does not mention
Samuel who had already disappeared to the south, nor Zoar. He mentions Job who
went south after his father's death.
       He married Sarah Hunter Abt.1670 in Marshfield, New Plymouth Colony.
Sarah died after 1710.
      John lived at Scituate in 1676 when his house was burned by Indians,  He moved
to Rochester before 1685.  He also resided at Marshfield.  He moved to Middleboro.
He took the oath of fidelity at Marshfield in 1657 and made Freeman.  He was a farmer.

      Isaac Bumpus - was born in Plymouth Colony before 27 March 1681.  Isaac
 died 19 December 1761 at 80 years of age. He married twice. He married first Mary
Perry 14 June 1708.  Mary was born 21 December 1675.  Mary was daughter of Ezra
Perry and Rebecca Freeman.  Mary died before 1741 in Rochester, Plymouth Co.,
He married second Elizabeth Clark, 6 October 1741 in Rochester, Plymouth Co.,
Massachusetts. Elizabeth was born about 1688.
 
Children of Isaac Bumpus and Mary Perry are :

i.  Josiah Bumpus - born in Rochester, Plymouth, Mass., 22 July 1711.  He died
    2 September 1757 in Plainfield, Windham, Connecticut.  He married Hannah
    Bumpas 21 December 1731 in Rochester, Plymouth, Mass., Hannah was born
    2 May 1707 in Rochester, Plymouth, Mass. She died (unknown).
        Records indicate Josiah and Hannah had 7 children.
ii.  Deborah Bumpas - born in Rochester, Plymouth, Mass. 31 August 1713.  She
     died (unknown).  She married Uriah Savery, 3 September 1738 in Rochester,
     Plymouth, Mass.  He was born (unknown).  He died (unknown).
         No more info on them or if any children were born.
iii.  Rhoda Bumpas - born in 1715 in Rochetsre, Plymouth, Mass., She died (unknown).
      No more info concerning marriage or children.
iv.    Nathan Bumpus - born at Rochester, Mass. 25 September 1717.  He married
        Lydia Bumpas in 1738.  Lydia was the daughter of John Bumpas and Hannah.
v.  Elizabeth Bumpas - born (unknown).  She die (unknown).
         Records seem to indicate this fifth child - No more info

Generation No. 4
 
      Nathan Bumpus - born at Rochester, Massachusetts, 25 September 1717.  He
married Lydia Bumpas in 1738.  Lydia was the daughter of John Bumpas and Hannah.
Lydia joined the Church at Wareham August 2, 1741.  Marriage intent gives her name
as Bump.  Marriage gives both she and Nathan a Bumpas.  Will and probate of
John Bupas, father of Nathan reads Bump. 
      No record of Lydia's parentage is found.  Proof of her parentage is in her father's
will.  Lydia married a second time to Ebenezer King, of Plymouth, Massachusetts.,
the school master at Wareham, Mass.  According to Church records, Nathan was a
wandering husband who returned now and then.  Lydia became interested in the
school teacher and "married him as she sat but the church looking into the matter
found she had applied for a divorce which was refused, the time limit for an absentee
had not expired.  The church reprimanded her and the teacher lost his job, the matter
was taken up by the church at Plymton.  When the time expired and her husband had
not reappeared, she made her confession and she and Ebenezer King were married
and the teacher restored to the school.

         It is said he married a daughter of General Putnam.
ii.  Jesse Bumpus - born at Wareham, Massachuetts on 2 August 1741.

iii.  Morris Bumpus - born in 1752.  Died at Hebron, ME.  He married Huldah Bumpas
      at Plympton, Mass.  She is the daughter of Zephaniah and Thankful Bumpas.

      Simeon Bumpus - born at Wareham, Massachuetts, 31 August 1739.
Said to have married __________  __________ , by Rev. Stephen Johnson.
It is said that his wife was a daughter of General Putnam.
      He lived with his grandparents in Lyme, Conneticut.  After marrying
________  ________ , he lived at Lyme, Conneticut, Barkhamstaed, Litchfield,
Herkimmer New York, and Lorraine, Jefferson County, New York.
      Colonial Wars : Served in the campaign of 1758, Ct. 3rd Reg't., 11 Co., under
Capt. Mather from April 6 to November 18 ; in the campaign of 1759, 4th Reg't.,
Co., under Capt. Zebulon Butler.
      Rev. War : Ct. served 24 August - 30 October 1777 under Capt. Jones, Co., N.H.
      Simeon of E. Haddam, Ct. bought land in Marlow, N.H. 25 March 1768.
Simeon sold land in Litchfield Co. (Barkhamstead) Ct. 14 October 1793.

i.    Nathan Bumpus - born 11 Aug 1765 and died 21 Feb 1851.
          Gravestones in the South Richland Cemetery, near Fernwood, N.Y. says;
          Nathan Bumpus died Feb. 21, 1851, aged 85 years 6 months.
          Nathan resided at Wingfield, Herkimer County, New York and at
              Richland, Oawego County, N.Y.
      The Family Bible in possession of - Charles Francis Bumpas - of R.D. # 5,
          Box 27, Oswego, N.Y. 13126, says; Mary died aged 83 and Nathan died
          aged 85.  Records indicate 4 children.
ii.    Isaac Bumpus - born in 1769.  Born at Conn.  Resided at Ellisburg, Jefferson
       Co., N.Y. and Lorraine, Jefferson Co., N.Y., 1830, 1840, 1850 Census.
           He was a farmer. - No spouse info - Records indicate 4 children.
iii.    Gladding Bumpus - born 17 Feb 1771 and died 2 March 1833.
            Married Sarah Judd - born 9 Aug 1771 - died 28 April 1833.
iv.    Simeon Bumpus - born in 1772 and died in 1850.
            Married Mary ______ - born in 1780. - No more info on Mary -
        He resided at Truxton, Cortland Co., N.Y.
            Records indicate 4 children.
v.      Jason Bumpus - born in 1775 and died 21 Dec 1863.

            Ester born in N.H. Resided at Litchfield, Herkimer Co., N.Y.
         (census 1800-10) and Ellington, Chatauqua Co., N.Y. (census
              1840-50-60) He was a farmer.  Records indicate 4 children.

              Married Anna Putnam, daughter of Francis and Anna
              (Scripture) Putnam. Resided Litchfield, Herkimer Co., N.Y.
              and Lorraine, Jeff. Co. N.Y.  He was a farmer.

Gladding Bumpus ( Gladwyn ) - born 17 February 1771 - died 2 March 1833
He married Sarah Judd.  Born 9 August 1771 and died 28 April 1846.  They
were married at Torrington in 1793.  Both died at Lorraine, N.Y.
    Gravestone in cemetery at Lorraine, N.Y. says ;
        " Gladding Bumpus died March 2, 1833 at 62 years, 15 days, GAR "
         Post 981.  He evidently went by the name Gladding, not Gladwyn as
         stated by CHB. Gravestone in Cemetery at Lorraine, N.Y. says ;
         " Sarah Bumpus died April 28, 1846 at 74 years, 8 months, 19 days.

          " David Gillett died March 8, 1882 at 72 years.  Ursula, his wife,
           died at 72 years, 8 months, 6 days.

v.    Erastus Sterling Bumpus - born in 1815 - died in 1839.
           Married Ann Finnette Shirley, 2 July 1839.

Generation No. 7
 
      Erastus Sterling Bumpus - born 31 May 1815, probably at Lorraine, N.Y.
He died 23 January 1880.  He married Ann Finnette Shirley, 2 July 1839.
She was born in 1816 and died in 1889.  Rev. Bumpus was a Free Will Baptist
Minister.  He also was a Shoemaker (1850 Census). Erastus came from
Massachuetts to N.Y., along Lake Ontario, to Pennsylvania about 1834.
        They are buried at the Small Cemetery , Jackson Twp. Pennsylvania.

            They lived at Lorraine, Jefferson County, N.Y.

Cooperstown, Pennsylvania.  He died 29 March 1926 in Cooperstown, Pa.
      Me married Elma Elizabeth Davison of Bradleytown, on 19 April 1888.
She was born 25 April 1866.  Elma was born in Cooperstown.  She died
19 October 1958.  They are buried at Small Cemetery, Jackson Township.
    Elma is the daughter of James Davison and Lucinda Mathers.

      Frederick Rufus Bumpus - born 20 September 1859 in Jackson Twp.
Cooperstown, Pa.  He died 29 March 1926 in Cooperstown, Pennaylvania.
      He married Elma Elizabeth Davison of Bradleytown on 19 April 1888.
She was born 25 April 1866.  Elma was born in Cooperstown.  She died
19 October 1958.  Both buried at Small Cemetery, Jackson Twp. Pa.

Theodore Dalton Bumpus , 87 , of Wylam , died Wednesday.
He was anative of Pa., a retired car inspector for Penn Railroad
and a resident of Wylam since 1965. Funeral will be at 3 p.m.
Friday at Angwin Ensley, with burial in Elmwood. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Rachel Aliano Bumpus; four daughters, Mrs. Jean
Miller, Pittsburgh, Mrs. Frances Aliano Ceravalo, Wylam, Mrs. Ann
Marx, Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Helen Dowdy, Sacramento, Calif; a
son, John Aliano, Frankfurt, Germany, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie
Shadle, Franklin, Pa. and Ferne Welsh, Union City, Pa.

Nellie M. Shadle , 87 , of Cooperstown RD 1 ( Bradleytown ) died
Sat evening in Venengo Manor following an unexpected illness.
Born July 8, 1904, in Rocky Grove, dau. of Fred and Elma Bumpus.
She m. Clyde Shadle in 1926. He preceeded her in death in1976.
After graduating from school in Titusville, she attended Edinboro
Normal School, now Edinboro University, and taught at elementary
 schools in Plum Township for several years.
Surviving are four sons, Lewis Shadle of Cochranton RD 4, James
Shadle of Carlton, Ga. and Donald Shadle of Cooperstown and
Mrs. Harris (Shirley) Steans of New Castle; 23 grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceeding her in death in addition to her husband and parents
were four brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today
in the Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home in Titusville.
Internment will be in Sunville Cemetery.
