Nathan Bumpus - born at Rochester,
Massachusetts, 25 September 1717. He
married Lydia Bumpas in 1738. Lydia was
the daughter of John Bumpas and Hannah.
Lydia joined the Church at Wareham August 2, 1741. Marriage intent gives her name
as Bump. Marriage gives both she and Nathan
a Bumpas. Will and probate of
John Bupas, father of Nathan reads Bump.
No record of Lydia's parentage is found. Proof of
her parentage is in her father's
will. Lydia married a second time to Ebenezer King, of Plymouth, Massachusetts.,
the school master at Wareham, Mass. According to Church records, Nathan was a
wandering husband who returned now and then. Lydia became interested in the
school teacher and "married him as she sat but the church looking into the matter
found she had applied for a divorce which was refused,
the time limit for an absentee
had not expired. The church reprimanded her
and the teacher lost his job, the matter
was taken up by the church at Plymton. When the time expired and her husband had
not reappeared, she made her confession and she and Ebenezer King were married
and the teacher restored to the school.

Theodore Dalton Bumpus , 87 , of Wylam , died Wednesday.
He was anative of Pa., a retired car inspector for Penn Railroad
and a resident of Wylam since 1965. Funeral will be at 3 p.m.
Friday at Angwin Ensley, with burial in Elmwood. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Rachel Aliano Bumpus; four daughters, Mrs. Jean
Miller, Pittsburgh, Mrs. Frances Aliano Ceravalo, Wylam, Mrs. Ann
Marx, Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Helen Dowdy, Sacramento, Calif; a
son, John Aliano, Frankfurt, Germany, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie

Nellie M. Shadle , 87 , of Cooperstown RD 1 ( Bradleytown ) died
Sat evening in Venengo Manor following an unexpected illness.
Born July 8, 1904, in Rocky Grove, dau. of Fred and Elma Bumpus.
She m. Clyde Shadle in 1926. He preceeded her in death in1976.
After graduating from school in Titusville, she attended Edinboro
Normal School, now Edinboro University, and taught at elementary
schools in Plum Township for several years.
Surviving are four sons, Lewis Shadle of Cochranton RD 4, James
Shadle of Carlton, Ga. and Donald Shadle of Cooperstown and
Mrs. Harris (Shirley) Steans of New Castle; 23 grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceeding her in death in addition to her husband and parents
were four brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today
in the Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home in Titusville.
Internment will be in Sunville Cemetery.
