On the passenger side
of the car, remove the two wires from the back of the light switch. With masking tape, mark the BLACK wires as Negative. Using
the Phillips screwdriver remove the screw in the switch and pull the switch out through the hole.
Get in the passenger seat and close the door. Using the china marker
reach under the dash and through the switch hole mark the door where the switch will sense the door. Open the door and check
your mark location. If your mark is on the edge of the black plate on the door you will need to add the new metal plate to
extend the surface that the sensor sees. When adding the new plate clean the surface of the black plate with acetone for good
adhesion of the Peel & Stick (PAS) tapes.
Take the remaining sensor and remove the one nut and lock washer
from the nose end. Close the door and from inside the car push the sensor through the hole where the switch came from. Backoff
the sensor locknut untill you feel the sensor touch the door. Adjust the locknut so the sensor is now about 1/8 inch from
the door. Open the door, reattach the lock washer and nut to the sensor and finger tighten.
Take the sensor terminal wire with the BLACK stripe and connect
it to the switch Negative connector (Black wire). Connect the remaining sensor wire to the purple/black wire connector.
Under the passenger side of the dash find the glove box light which
has two purple wires and a purple/white wire. The two purple wires are the hot wires from the fuse. Take the saddle splice
and splice the yellow wire into one of the purple wires. (You could also make a solder connection here for a more permanent
connection)
Using a 10mm socket loosen the angle bracket holding the kick pad.
Remove the nut and washer from the body side and lift the bracket off the stud. Place the switch box bracket over the stud
and reassemble the bracket and tighten.
SMOKE TEST TIME
Re-insert the fuse into the #12 fuse holder slot. If the lights
on the doors do not come on flip the switch on the switch box. The lights should now be ON. If you have no lights, check the
fuse and then the wiring diagram.
Move a wrench or other metal object close to the end of the sensor,
you should see the lights go off when within 1/4" of the sensor.
ADJUSTING THE SENSORS
The door must NOT strike
the sensor.
After the system tests out ok, coil up extra wires and tie
up under dashboard.
