The P7157 100 Amp alternator (1980 Cadillac) is almost a direct replacement for the DeLorean. Price was $75 with a $30
dollar core charge. I just installed one in my car that replaced a Duralast 70897-12 that someone had gerry-rigged to fit
in the car, including a hand made mounting bracket. And since they had made a gerry-rigged bracket I had to contact Bob Miller
(delo1@mindspring.com) to get me a DeLorean alternator mounting bracket. I didn't have a Ducy or Motorola alternator to replace,
so my major concern was getting the wiring correct and not worrying about maintaining authenticity.
There are two wires going to the alternator besides the jumble of battery wires that attach to the output post on the
back, and they are the brown/yellow and brown wires. The brown/yellow wire is the "Battery Light" wire and the solid brown
wire is the "Sense" wire. I bought the GM Delco connector that plugs into the alternator in the bubble pack at the auto parts
store. Its a white plastic connector with one white wire and one red wire and is keyed so it only fits one way in the alternator.
I soldered the brown/yellow wire to the white wire that attaches to terminal #1 on the alternator and slid some shrink tubing
over the connection. I then soldered the brown "Sense" wire to the red wire that attaches to terminal #2 on the alternator
and slid some shrink tubing over that connection.
The belt tensioning "J" bracket that was on the car was reused with this
alternator. Its amazing. Now the needle never goes below 13 volts even with the A/C on full blast. Before, the needle always
went down to 10 volts if I had to sit at a traffic light.
