Morning Clinics I
Bass from the Bottom
with Don Vought
This class is designed for beginning bassists with little or no experience.  It will help provide the foundation needed to become a successful player.  Focus is on right and left hand technique and building a basic walking bass line that can be used in many styles of contemporary music, including rock, jazz, worship, bluegrass and country.
Music Composition: A Practical Overview
of the Composition Process
with Jack Krone
Students will gain an understanding of the creative process.  They will learn how to convey their ideas creatively through music writing.  The various techniquest involved in creating new and personally enjoyable compositions will be presented and put to practical use by students.  The actual process of putting the creation on paper so it can be shared with others will also be part of the presentation.  A brief overview of the actual arranging process will also be included.
The Beginning Guitarist
with Joel Golden

Joel’s clinic will start with a brief history of the guitar and an overview of various styles and the guitars that go with them. It will then move along into some fundamentals of music and how they relate to the specifics of the guitar. The final part of his presentation will be a demonstration of simple melodies, basic scales, harmonies, chords, and some basic improvisation techniques.

Morning Clinics II
Guitar Tapestries
with David and Marg
David Myslewski and Marg Terry have played guitar together since 1990.  Performing in a variety of genres, they are especially proud of their CD, Simple Pleasures, and of their concerts in recent years at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, where David is a guitar instructor.  Marg's dexterous melodic lines and crisp sense of rhythm blend smoothly with David's technical wizardry to reflect beautifully their versatility and talent.  This seminar will enable participants to develop their style and to improve their technique.
The Guitarist's Toolbox
with Jim Ronan
How did he do that?  That's a common question when you listen to a lot of guitar music.  In this lesson, students will learn techniques that will come in handy during jam sessions, creative ruts and for the simple reason of just having a new technique to play with.  Techniques will include: String bending, vibrato, tremolo picking, raking the strings and some discussion of amp effects.  Please be advised that it may be difficult to replicate some of the techniqes described on an acoustic guitar.
The Complete Guitarist
With Joel Anderson
This workshop is intended for students who read music and have a full command of scales and variety of intervals.  Perfect for the guitarist to learn new fingering patterns, exercises and picking techniques.  Students will get an introduction to improvising and comping along with a study of jazz and contemporary blues.  They will learn the creation of ghost notes and the basic technique of chord solo playing.
Afternoon Clinics
Rockabilly 101 and Beyond
With Grant Orris
Students will be learning a variety of techniques and sounds used to develop their rockabilly style.  Grant will review early influences on the rockabilly scene as well as artists that he has embraced to develop his own style.  This session may also overlap into the development of rock and roll music itself.
The Evolving Jazz Bassist
With Philip Burlingame
This workshop is intended to educate students in their development as serious jazz bassists.  Areas of study include: Choosing your bass equipment (including the bass itself, amplifier issues, direct box and bass effects), developing walking bass lines for jazz, listening to jazz with a bass point of view, combo v. ensemble playing and becoming an evolving jazz bassist.
