There were many women present at the Battle of Antietam. Some of them were nurses, but others disguised themselves as
men and took part in the battle. There were also women spies. While there is no monument for spies and women soldiers, there
is one dedicated to the hard and brave work of the nurses at the battle.

The Barbara Fritchie House
During the Civil War, a woman named Barbara Fritchie waved a Union flag from a second story window of her
home as Stonewall Jackson's troops were passing through town. The Barbara Fritchie Museum, though not her actual home, is
an exact replica of the origional and contains a lot of interesting information about the home and the legend of Barbara
Fritchie.
However- we've been there twice already- and they were closed although it was supposed to be open, the second
time we noticed that there was a cobweb across the door on the inside so there may not have been anybody ther in a while.
