New Volunteer Meeting Recap and

Follow Up Information

July 18, 2006

Attendance for our meeting was very good, especially considering the intense heat and stormy forecast.  Although we intended to begin at 7:00PM, some of the newspapers misprinted the time as 6:30 and we had about 14 people there by 6:20.  We improvised by starting early with the history of the group and Merynda’s background, and then repeated it all at the end for those who missed it, while the other folks were able to review the handouts or fill out volunteer applications.  All total there were 30 people there.

New Beginnings now has about 14 volunteer applicants that are local to NJ plus several long distance persons interested in assisting from home with grant writing.    Many of them have rescue experience, and three are certified dog trainers and/or behaviorists.  Some have specialized things to offer as well, like photography or computers skills.   All of this is a great start, and we intend to have more meetings throughout the state.

Check out the How You Can Help Page (use link on the left) to see how to join our volunteer base.

Beethoven's story was featured on News Channel 12 NJ this week (June 2006)!  Thanks to John Klekack (pictured here with Beethoven) and the entire Channel 12 team for helping us to spread the word.

BEETHOVEN'S BIG MOVE:
(L) Beethoven's staff caretaker at Sunrise, Helene, speaks with Ch. 12 "on air".  Beethoven and Helene had such a bond that he joined her at her new location in the Saddle Brook facility  (within the Sunrise Network) recently.  New Beginnings and the residents all agreed it was in Beethoven's best interest to stay with his buddy and Edgewater is looking forward to meeting a new canine friend soon!
