LOG OF SOMETHING EASY June 2008
Chartered 2 yachts to sail from Annapolis, MD to circumnavigate the DelMarVa peninsula.
I sailed on Something Easy, a Jeanneau 39 which was practically brand new and had the nicest running rigging of any yacht
I have chartered.
Everyone prepared extensively for the offshore portion of the trip: extra gear included harnesses
and personal light beacons as well as PFD's for each crew member and jacklines, ditch bags and life rafts for each boat.
Meals were pre-cooked for several dinners and individually packaged in vacuum seal for easy storage and preparation.
After an overnight raft in the Sassafras (June 21), we made a short hop to the C&D
Canal where we hung out for most of the 22nd hoping to avoid bad weather forecast for the open water portion of our trip.
We left Summit Point Marina at 4:30AM on June 23 heading down Delaware Bay to the Ocean. On the evening of the 23rd thunderstorms
rolled all around us but we were lucky to hit only a brief downour and some winds up to 35 knots.
By the evening if the 24th we entered the mouth of the Chesapeake and, 41 hours after departing
the C&D, we found harbor near Norfolk. The next two days were spent sailing and motoring up the Chesapeake
with overnight at the dock at Tangier Island and on the hook at Duns Cove (Tilghman) On June 27 we finished
back in Annapolis just in time to unpack and check out before the thunderstorms hit again.
