Welcome to johncmurray.com --- my little piece of the digital
universe that exists in endless cyberspace.
I am so pleased to be the Featured Artist
on the Milton Art Guild Web Site! I will
be featured for the month of February 2007.

I am a teacher, spirit guide of sorts, and technical guru of things intaglio,
formerly at the Montpelier Cultural Arts Center in Laurel, Maryland. Come walk with me at one of my upcoming workshops
and unleash the power of all your creative energies. Discover and exploit your printmaking potential.
Printmaking is my way to capture and celebrate life as seen through
this artist's eyes. I've assembled some of my recent etchings and put them on my site for you to see and maybe buy
for your own enjoyment. The image at the top of this page is a Mezzotint. Not many people do this technique
because it is VERY labor intensive. Read my brief explanation of this and other printmaking methods on my special
page made just for this purpose. I taught myself how to do mezzotint, and am having a really fun time of it. See
my explanation of mezzotint and three other traditional techniques for creating the Fine Art Print elsewhere on
this website.
I really got into printmaking after having had a wonderful career with Bell Atlantic (Verizon) working
on the Regional Tech Support Staff in Silver Spring, MD. Then I worked for 5 more years delivering technical
training for Hekimian Labs. in Rockville,MD, then did four years tech training for Verizon. Wow! A lot of talking, eh?
I really learned printmaking from David Hunter while vacationing in Nags Head, NC. David has a background as a teacher,
and so he was able to communicate the concepts and techniques of printmaiking very effectively. He also is the founder
of the Florida Printmakers, Inc. and has a very nice website.

Speaking of which...
I am available to give interesting talks and presentations
on printmaking and etching to your group- Appropriate for almost any level: Seniors, Scouts, Arts groups,
Career Days in high schools, community organizations, etc.. I am experienced at teaching and public speaking, having
done so for many years and by now have gotten pretty darn good at it.
Send me a message in the box below and
let's talk about it.!
