While Ed is teaching himself how to use HTML (without help from Dreamweaver, Front Page, or any other HTML editor), this will be a Web site in progress. If the Verizon people give him enough free server space, expect to see many colors and sounds, different fonts and formats, and interesting and entertaining images – all the bells and whistles.

Also, through the use of links to different resumes, he'll tell you just enough about himself so you will know whether to hire him or fire him, love him or hate him, or ignore him altogether.

Keep in touch. And if you have any suggestions or complaints, send him a message at e.m.b"at"verizon.net, where "at" is the usual symbol. If you send him a complaint, he promises not to flame his reply.

Who is Ed Bruce?

Since what a person has done can tell you a lot about who he is, you might want to click on one or more of the following resumes. Be prepared for some weird colors (he's still experimenting).

If you know of a good job opening in the field of technical or promotional communications, you can use a feedback form to tell Ed all about it.

What's he looking for?

Part-time work or full-time work as a:

Yes, he has done all that (but not at the same time), and all of it is summarized in his technical/promotional communication resume.

Why is he looking?

After retiring from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1992 and engaging in part-time activities outside the field of technical communications (see retirement resume), he ran out of money.

What's his progress so far?

After posting a resume on the Monster Board, he received twenty-one replies, six interviews, and his first job offer which he promptly accepted. He started working for Ajilon Services at Manulife Financial in downtown Boston on 20 September 2000 and was told he would be there for about three months. But his project was extended for a month and he was not available for other employment until 9 February 2001.

After updating his Monster Board resume, he was filled with great expectations but soon received still another lesson in humility as a result of the economic downturn. During a period of about four months he received only twelve replies and three interviews, but the last interview was the best because it generated his second job offer which of course he accepted right away.

This time, on 20 June 2001 he started working for Total Technical Services at Breda Transportation in Littleton MA (his home town) and was told he'd be there for at least three months, with the possibility of part-time work after the full-time work ends. Well, that was a long time ago, and he continued on a full-time status until he was finally laid off on 28 December 2007. Obviously someone grossly underestimated the enormity of the tasks involved and the type of communication services Ed can provide.

At the present time, he is looking for writing or editing work in technical or promotional communications.

He still needs to learn how to use several software tools that were not required at DEC.

This Web site is his way of learning how to use one of those tools.
