Replacement Windows
We were very excited to replace the 52 year old steel casement windows as they were ugly, rusted, broken, and drafty. The first step was to chisel them out from between the walls (they really built things to last in the old days!). |
Here's our window installer preparing the window space for our new windows. |
There you can see the difference between the old and new windows. |
There's the house in the fall (with our Silver Maple in full bloom) with our new lawn and windows. |
Painting
During our first Winter in the house (1998-99) we spent a lot of time sanding and painting the inside of the house. We completed the master bedroom, dining room, living room, and hallway areas. Here's the master bedroom all prepped and taped and ready to be painted. |
There's Bev and Carey doing their best painter version of the "American Gothic" portrait. |
First Spring
There's the front of the house in the early spring with the new crocuses (sp?) coming up in our new lawn. |
That's the front walkway lined with the new crocuses. |

The Squirrel Tree
This is the ugly, almost completly dead tree that we affectionately called - "The Squirrel Tree." It harbored several squirrel nests and was generally a complete eyesore. In short, it needed to go. And on June 5, 1999, Carey and Bev with their new Stihl Model 025 chainsaw took it down. This picture shows the ugly tree with Bev rigged up to guide the fall. |
Here is the defeated squirrel tree. People should buy stock in Stihl. They make great chainsaws. |
