Three Free concerts on Friday evenings featuring rising talents
Formalist
Quartet – October 26 at 8:00 p.m.
The Formalist Quartet,
named to honor the memory and music of Dmitri Shostakovich, gave their first performance on September 25th, 2006, the composer's
100th birthday. The group has since performed many more of his works as an ongoing project to perform all fifteen string quartets.
Their performance of repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary works and world premiers has been heard at numerous venues
on the West Coast, including the Roy O. Disney Hall at CalArts, Eagle Rock Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock, CA, and Walt
Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. They appear at MOSA as part of their first East Coast tour.

Juilliard School's Alice Tully
Vocal Arts Debut Recital Award - February 1 at 8:00 p.m.
Since
1997, the Alice Tully Vocal Arts Debut Recital is a Juilliard-produced annual concert event established with a generous
gift from the Alice Tully Foundation to promote outstanding young vocalists on the threshold of a professional career. Past
recipients of the award include sopranos Jennifer Aylmer, Sari Gruber, Raquela Sheeran, Lauren
Skuce, and Sarah Wolfson; mezzo-sopranos Stephanie Houtzeel, Mariana Karpatova,
and Brenda Patterson; baritone Randall Scarlata; and tenor William Ferguson. The 2008 award winner performs at MOSA in preperation for a February 29 recital at Weill Recital
Hall at Carnegie Hall.

The Juilliard William
Petschek Piano Debut Award Recital was established more than 25 years ago, through the generosity of the William Petschek
Charitable Trust, to assist in launching the careers of young artists. Distinguished past recipients, most making their New
York debut, have included James Barbagallo, Robert Benz, Jeffrey Biegel, Shu-Ching Evelyn Chen, Frederic Chiu, Jeremy Denk,
Akira Eguchi, Eduardus Halim, Jennifer Hayghe, Hsing-Ay Hsu, Soyeon Lee, Panayis Lyras, Ick Choo Moon, Pedja Muzijevic, Ian
Parker, Jon Kimura Parker, Vassily Primakov, John Root, the late
Gregory Slag, Ju-Ying
Song, Konstantin Soukhovetski, Ha-Kyung Suh, Albert Tiu, Terrence Wilson, Orion Weiss, and Elizabeth Roe. The 2008 winner's performance at MOSA is a warm-up for a March 27 recital at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.
