Bennett Park

The park contains the point of highest elevation in Manhattan (265.05 feet above sea level)
and was also the site where the Revolutionary Battle of New York was lost. Bennett Park was named for James Gordon Bennett
(1795-1872), the newspaper man who in 1835 started the New York Herald. His son James Gordon, Jr., later ran the paper from
his Paris home and started what would evolve into the International Herald Tribune.

The 67-acre
park was designed in 1935 by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., son of the man who designed Central Park. The grounds were once part
of the Cornelius K.G. Billings estate and later given to the City by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in 1931. The park contains the
Cloisters Museum, New Leaf Café (the Billings stable turned restaurant) and a beautiful 600 foot terraced heather garden on
a bluff overlooking the Hudson River and the Jersey Palisades.
George Washington Bridge

Rising 212 feet above the water, the main span is 3,500 feet long. When this
bridge opened in 1931 it was the world's longest suspension bridge.
