Super Dressage Pedigree for Movement and Rideability
SPA/EM Diotima is by the legendary Oldenburg stallion Donnerschlag (Donnerhall - Pik Koenig
- Frustra II) out of a Matrose - Wolfsburg mare. Donnerschlag stood at Gestuet St. Ludwig for the majority of his career before
coming to the United States. Like his sire Donnerhall, he showed an aptitude for dressage and was trained and shown to Grand
Prix in Germany. His get show excellent dressage abilities as well as above average Riding Horse Points (eg, conformation),
Foundation (legs), and gaits. He most markedly improves the rideability and canter. Donnerschlag absolved his stallion performance
test with excellent scores, including an overall score of 133.75 with excellent dressage (134.22) and jumping indices (115.26).
Donnerschlag is the sire of multiple approved stallions. Donnerschlag's full sister, SPS Desiree, was successful in riding
horse tests and produced the Hanoverian-approved stallion Riverside by Regazzoni. She also is the granddam of the approved
Hanoverian stallion Bugatti Hilltop, shown successfully at FEI under Michael Klimke and Chris Hickey. Donnerschlag's dam Pirola
(Pik Koenig - Frustra II - Domspatz) is the fill sister of Pik Bube I and Pik Bube II. Her full sisters, Palljana and Paola,
both produced the approved stallions, Raphanus (out of Palljana), Bergamon and Donnerklang A (both out of Paola). Paola also
produced the Oldeburg State Riding Horse Champion and Champion of the Elite Mare Show at Rastede, SPS Primavera (by Donnerhall;
full sister to Donnerklang A). Interestingly, the elite stallion Bugatti Hilltop carries both sisters Paola and Pirola and
Donnerschlag's full sister Desiree in his pedigree.
In 2008, the WBFSH rankings showed that Donnerhall was ranked number 2 and Donnerschlag
was ranked number 21 (and was the only Donnerhall son in the top rankings!)

Diotima's damsire, Matrose, by the
thoroughbred Marcio xx, sired 9 approved stallions and 10 Olympic dressage contenders. Matrose excelled in dressage
and his offspring were noted for their rideability. During his era, he was ranked 3rd among his age group as a sire of dressage
horses. The offspring also displayed good jumping ability. Werner Schockemöhle described Matrose as producing "large-framed
riding horses who were rideable and forward going and can even jump impressively. He delivered a lot of high priced Verden
Elite auction horses as well" and that "Matrose sons at licensing came very, very close to the perfect and modern Hanoverian
breeding goals" (from 1982 2nd edition Die Grossen Hengste Hannovers; Editor Ahnert Verlag). Matrose sired the stallion Matrox,
who is the damsire of the elite Westfalen stallion Pablo. Marcio xx (1947) sired 8 state stallions and produced good dressage
horses. His get have won over 330,000 DM. Werner Schockemöhle states that "Marcio was a horse that produced a lot of
good dressage horses. There has never again been such a Thoroughbred horse with such an ability to produce. He was not too
tough, he was finished when he was 18, a little early for a Thoroughbred stallion, but he produced a lot of horses for the
big dressage. Nearly every horse he produced was good to ride. Lots of them were fantastic movers. From what I have
seen so far of the Laurie's Crusador horses, they haven't had the moving ability of the Marcio horses. Laurie's Crusador has
been mated with the top mares and it should be much easier for him to produce good horses than in the time of Marcio. Marcio
was often bred to very heavy and common mares." (See Horse Magazine link below). Marcio xx is in the damlines of such famous
dressage stallions as Brentano II, Beltain (sire of Bundeschampion Belissimo M), Wolkenstein II, Alabaster, and Donnerwetter
(sire of Donnerhall) and in famous jumping horses such as Elute, Landefriese II and Pablo.
Diotima's grand-damsire Wolfsburg
sired Wodka, a foundation stallion at Spruce Meadows, who went on to sire one of the first internationally competitive Canadian
bred warmbloods, Concorde. The cross between Wolfsburg and Marcio xx produced excellent sporthorses
like the Hanoverian stallion Elute, who was an extremely consistent Nation's Cup horse and went to the Olympics for Canada in Showjumping. The combination of Wolfsburg
and Pik Koenig produced the granddam of the approved Hanoverian stallion Rio Grande
by Raphael.

At the 2008 Dressage at Devon, EM Diotima was 3rd (of 16) in the Broodmare class with an 80.7% score (8.4 conformation,
7.8 for walk and trot, 8.2 for overall impression) from judge Victoire Mandl (Austria) who was President of the Ground Jury
at DAD. In this class, Diotima placed just behind Iron Spring Farm's Rabiola (2007 Reserve Grand Champion and 2006 Grand Champion
of DAD) and Hilltop Farm's Cha Cha (2008 Reserve Grand Champion of DAD) and just ahead of M Ecloir, who was the Grand Champion
of Dressage at Devon in 2002.
Judge Jochen Wilkens from the Hanoverian Verband stated that
"Now this is what we look for in a
Hanoverian Mare. This mare is spectacular and
certainly one of the best mares here today... she was
imported from Germany as a States Premium Candidate
and today she has fulfilled her obligation of the foal
requirement. SPA Diotima is now an Elite Mare, one
we should be glad to have in the US."
