Chi wara (Antelope) Carvings

The Chi waras are wood carvings of antelope done by the Bambara of Mali.  The most common form is the male, but they were also carved as pairs and more rarely as female antelope.  As does the Bambara mother, the mother chi wara carries her baby on her back.  There are two major styles, the vertical and the horizontal.
 
These are photos converted to silhouettes and presented in different ways to highlight the design.
