Disciples Engaged in Exploring the Plan of the Almighty

DEEPA_Logo.JPG

DEEPA is a Bible-base youth group that was designed to facilitate the needs of young persons who desire to know more about God.  These young people are not satisfied with religion, but desire to go deeper in their understanding.

Those who attend come voluntarily and are encouraged to continue with the group only if they are serious about having an encounter with the Lord, Jesus Christ.  Though they struggle with peer pressure, they have decided to search God's Word for the correct solutions.

Because the Word of God describes disciples as the Light of the World, the students are expected to reach out to their communities and share the love of God.  Many people often say that the children are our future.  However, we believe that the children are our present, as well.  Some have already received their calling from the Lord and are ready to serve Him.

Please pray for them as they go DEEPA in the Word of God!

Lyrics to "Hide Me" by Kirk Franklin
I know You see us
I know you hear us
And You fill us when we pray
You understand us, See deep inside us
Translate tears and take them away
I'ma be honest, There are times
Your ways and methods, I don't understand
YOU seem so far, Tell me who YOU are
I know your touch, but can't see Your plan.
I'm lost in this thing called life,
Left to me now feels right
It's Your turn now, I wanna be where you are

[Refr:]
Hide me
Let me live behind You
Cause I need
Shelter from the rain
Remind me
The only way my faith can grow
Is when You let Your winds blow
You're making me stronger now, so rain,
Don't go away
Don't go away

I admit
It'd be nice
To have some Light shine down on me
Especially, when what I shall be, You don't always let me see
It ain't easy,
But I'm trying hard to get out of Your way
To believe
That what You say
That my change begins today.
The road includes some pain,
And to grow you need some rain
And when it falls, I wanna be where You are

[Refr.]

[Bridge:]
Cause there's some much I see
Needs to grow inside of me
In the fire I realize
Before I live, I have to die
Please believe me when I say
I can't waste another day
It's so easy to complain
But complain don't make a change
Not the victim anymore
All the things God has in store
If I ain't ready don't let the rain
Go away
Don't go away

Hide me
Cause I need
Remind me
The only way my faith can grow
Is when You let Your winds blow
You're making me stronger now

You're making me stronger now [x7]
You made me stronger now [x4]

[x2:]
He made me stronger now
She made me stronger now
They made me stronger now [x2]

You made me stronger now [x8]

As part of our desire to train young people to seek a relationship with Christ instead of pursuing religion, we share Kingdom principles that encourage them to live on earth the way "it is in Heaven".

We invite you to go DEEPA in your understanding by reviewing the topics that we have discussed.

Send me an email entitled, "Requesting DEEPA Materials" and I will be happy to forward the information to you.

DEEPA Recommends
 "Renovation of the Heart"

renovation_of_the_heart_cover.JPG

We are currently taking our lessons from a book entitled, "Renovation of the Heart" by Dallas Willard and Randy Frazee and are customizing our lessons around their suggestions, theories, and ideas.  We in no way lay claim to their material and share it here for your spiritual edification only. We are, however, the creators of the Powerpoint presentations which you are welcome to use for Bible Study.

Beginning in August you will be able to hear one of our very own youth Disciples on LCF's Live 365 Radio Station.   Cheeky is scheduled to speak on current topics that relate to young people.  Don't miss it! Check back for more dates and times. (Click photo to listen to the radio station now.)

Weekly Review

9/14/08

This week, we discussed the "Feedback Loop".  It is a cycle designed to trap youth into damaging practices.  Follow this link to learn how high-paid executives sell images and ideas to you so that they can prosper off of your bad choices.

The Feedback Loop

God has given us specific tools to overcome the power of this "Feedback Loop" where you are constantly enticed to participate in thoughts and actions that are contrary to God's Word.

You need to make a decision to JUMP OUT of the "Loop".  You can do this by learning and memorizing scripture that can help you make wiser choices.  You can learn from others who are living successful Christian lives.  And you can change what you listen to as well as what you watch.  Use the intelligence that God gave you to know when enough is enough and stop being victimized by sin!

9/7/08 New Unit:  Transforming My Mind’s Thoughts
In our first lesson for the new unit, we learned that there are
4 aspects of the mind that work together to sway our hearts toward radical ruin or radical goodness according to Renovation of the Heart. They are:
  1. 1.Ideas - the way we think about things
  2. 2.Images - mental pictures or impressions
  3. 3.Information - giving and/or receiving knowledge and intelligence
  4. 4.Intelligence - the ability to learn or understand
These 4 things contribute to how you think and feel about life and its experiences.  The key to spiritual maturity in your thought life is:

(1) to bring your ideas in line with God's ideas;

(2) to guard your mind against negative beliefs obtained from images such as pornography and music videos;

(3) to sort through the information that you receive on a daily basis, holding onto the truth and discarding the lies; and

(4) to use the intelligence that God has given you to think about the consequences of every action and decision that you make BEFORE you make them using the information that is available to you.

I pray that you guys are listening.  Following wise advice can mean the difference between success and failure, happiness and sorrow, and even life and death!

What's On Your Mind?  What's On Others' Minds

During our 08/10/08 session, we learned that our minds, bodies and social lives can hinder us from reaching our goals.  For example, if we have friends whose opinions influence us to make decisions that move us away from our goals, we need to pray and ask God for the strength to do what is best for us.
Also, our physical desires and bad habits can get in the way of progress.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During our 08/3/08 session, we learned that there are many views that we have of ourselves.  We learned about:
  • Our Actual Selves - how we describe who we believe we are
  • Our Ideal Selves - how we describe who we would like to be (goals, dreams, aspirations)
  • Our Ought Selves - how we believe we ought to be.  This opinion can come from good and bad sources.  We can develop this opinion from our peers, our parents, or God's Word.  It is important that we base who we ought to be on a good source and example.

In their book entitled, "Renovation of the Heart", the authors, Willard and Frazee, introduce us to the concept of VIM.  VIM stands for:

V - Vision (what I am hoping for)

I - Intention (making up my mind that I am going to pursue what I am hoping for)

M - Means (how I am going to go about getting what I am hoping for)

We discussed how when trying to move from our actual selves (who we are today) to our ideal selves (Vision), we need to do 2 things:   (1)make up our minds that we really want to reach our ideal selves (Intention) and (2) come up with a well-documented plan (means) to reach our goals.

The Bible supports this statement in two scriptures:

  • “Where there is no vision, the people perish” – Proverbs 29:18a

  • “And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

– Habbakuk 2:2

Begin to see yourself in the future as you would like to be.  Take into consideration who you are today so that you can come up with a successful plan to reach your future goal. And then, write down your plan (which may often change throughout your life) and go for it!

It is important to understand that unless we plan to succeed, we plan to fail.  Or as it has also been said, "Those who fail to plan, plan to fail."
