Objection Sustained! - The Power of Intercession

In today’s society, it seems that people find so much pleasure in exposing the faults and indiscretions of others.  For example, during political campaigns, candidates who are of the same party affiliation find it quite easy to publicize negative information about one another.  But after one of them is selected to represent their party, the other one begins to support and promote him or her.  It’s as if all of the negative words were never spoken.  It’s as if we never heard them expose their opponents’ extramarital affairs, drug usage, or misappropriation of funds.  And now we, the voters, are expected to join them in support of someone who they, only a few days earlier, declared to be a scoundrel who was undeserving of our trust and unfit for public office. Well, the fact of the matter is that the harmful statements were made.  And it becomes very difficult, if not impossible, to erase the indelible impression that those harmful accusations have made in our minds.  This is why scripture tells us in Proverbs 22:1 that a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.

Did you know that right now, as I speak, there is someone who is trying to taint your good name in the presence of God?  Well there is, and he works tirelessly at it.  But you are not without defense.  The Lord stands up to protect your name.

Right now, the enemy of your soul – the accuser of the brethren, stands before God presenting his case like a politician trying to discredit you.  His name is Satan, and Revelation 12:10 tells us that he accuses us both night and day – presenting our sins before God.  Now, the fact is that though he is known to be the Father of Lies, his accusations may not always be untrue.  I am sure that we Believers often give Satan enough negative truth about us that he does not have to make up any lies. And whatever he isn’t telling, God already knows because Psalm 139:12 tells us that darkness does not hide us from God – to Him, dark and light are both the same.  So, our secret sins are open before His all-seeing eyes.  This is why I appreciate knowing that Jesus has been declared to be our advocate at God’s throne.

Hebrews 9:24 says,

For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence.

What does that mean for us?

Well, let’s look at Hebrews 7:25.  It reads as follows:

“…he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”

Jesus is not like the Old Testament priests whose service ended when their lives ended.  Because He ever lives, He can stand in God’s Presence interceding for us as long as is necessary.

To get a better understanding of the importance of His intercession, let’s look at the Greek word for, “intercession”.

The Greek word is “enteuxis”.  It means 3 things:

  1. To interrupt another while speaking
  2. To address God for oneself or others
  3. Coming to God with boldness.

When I learned the true meaning of intercession, I got excited because if you put all three parts of the definition together, you get a word that means to come boldly to God on behalf of yourself or for others for the purpose of interrupting another who is speaking. Now, if you are getting excited, it means that it is already beginning to make sense to you.  But, just for the record, let me explain.  As I told you earlier, Satan continuously stands before God speaking negative things about us.  But, the Bible tells me that Jesus stands in Heaven always interceding for us.

In other words, as Satan reads his list of sins against us, Jesus interrupts him, addresses God on our behalf, and boldly silences the enemy.  Hallelujah!  Isn’t that wonderful to know?  When Satan tells God what we’ve been doing wrong, Jesus stands and reminds the Father that He already died for that.

If you’ve ever been in a courtroom, you’ve seen this in action.  The prosecuting attorney stands, grabs hold of his or her suit collar and struts before the judge and jury with an air of arrogance.  He or she begins spewing out statements that are intended to totally destroy the defendant’s reputation.  And then with great urgency, the defending attorney leaps to his or her feet and shouts, “I object, your Honor!”  And by doing so, the prosecuting attorney’s speech is interrupted and silenced.  And then, all eyes are on the judge who will either reply with, “objection overruled” or “objection sustained”. In the first case, the prosecutor has permission to continue to accuse the defendant.  But in the second case, the prosecutor must cease from throwing accusations, and all references to those accusations must be erased from court records.  Glory to God for this wonderful revelation! When our Savior represents us, He never loses a case.  And because His blood was accepted by the judge as part of a Grand plea bargain, the judge (God the Father) will always say, “Objection Sustained” whenever Jesus stands to make His argument.

Now, why is this important to you as a Believer?  When Jesus hears accusations going forth against us, He stands and shouts, “I object!”  Then, the Judge remembers the Blood that He shed on Calvary’s cross.  Since the Father accepted that sacrifice (or plea bargain), not one of us can be tried for the same case twice.  That would be double jeopardy, and that is illegal.  Nothing that Satan can present to God against us can be committed to God’s record.  The slate is always wiped clean for us.  We are constantly made innocent before our God as we confess our sins to Jesus.

Jude 1:24 tells us that Christ is able to keep us from falling and to present us faultless before the Presence of God with exceeding joy.

Now, I have served on jury duty several times, and the only time that I have ever seen a defendant expressing any kind of joy in the courtroom is after he or she had been pronounced, “Not guilty”.  So, you can be sure that if we are standing before God with an abundance of joy, it is because God is not holding anything to our charge.  We are innocent before Him.

Today, I want to encourage you to remember that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.  Now, if you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior, you are in bad shape.  There is a saying that says that a fool represents himself in court.  If Jesus, who willingly became the sinner’s public defender, is not your advocate, then you are without defense and will be found guilty before God.  All of your sins have been and are still being recorded.  And one day, you will be condemned.  It’s not pretty…it’s not the judge’s fault…it’s just the truth.  But you can change the outcome of your mandatory sentence to hell by asking Jesus to save you today.

For those of you who have already accepted Jesus as your Savior, here is a promise for you:

Isaiah 50:7-9 (New International Version)

7 Because the Sovereign LORD helps me,
       I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,
and I know I will not be put to shame.

8 He who vindicates me is near.
Who then will bring charges against me?
       Let us face each other!
       Who is my accuser?
       Let him confront me!

9 It is the Sovereign LORD who helps me.
Who is he that will condemn me?
       They will all wear out like a garment;
the moths will eat them up.

God bless you in knowing that the case against you has been dismissed.

Preparing for the End Times

“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”

(Matthew 24:12)

There is no denying it—the times in which we live are definitely perilous.  As the scripture foretells, iniquity abounds all around us.  Our children are not safe in school.  Our loved ones are not safe on the streets.  Gangs target innocent victims as if they were ducks in a carnival shooting gallery game.  And violence is the most popular form of entertainment on websites such as Youtube.  If we are not careful to guard our hearts and minds, we can become exhausted and embittered from the daily stresses that we must endure.  This is why it is important for us to focus on God’s Word for direction and answers.

In his second epistle to Timothy, the Apostle Paul writes about the Godlessness of the last days:

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be:

1.      lovers of themselves,

2.      lovers of money,

3.      boastful,

4.      proud,

5.      abusive,

6.      disobedient to their parents,

7.      ungrateful,

8.      unholy,

9.      without love,

10.  unforgiving,

11.  slanderous,

12.  without self-control,

13.  brutal,

14.  not lovers of the good,

15.  treacherous,

16.  rash,

17.  conceited,

18.  lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

19.  having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Have nothing to do with them. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.”

 (2 Timothy 3:1-9)

The Bible lists 19 characteristics that describe the people of the times in which we live.  And as Jesus shared in His sermon, because of this heightened level of iniquity, the love of many shall grow cold and even disappear. I am sure that you have encountered the kind of people who are described in this passage of scripture.  And I am sure that your continuous encounters with them often have adverse effects on your heart; however, I want to encourage you to stay focused and stay prayed up.  Do not let the presence of sin in our world take you by surprise.  Remember, being saved means that you are saved from:  (1) the power of sin, (2) the presence of sin, and (3) the penalty of sin.  In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said that the gates of hell shall not prevail against His church (body of Believers).  So we can be sure that they won’t! The Lord has warned us in His Word that evil will increase.  Therefore, we must gird ourselves up and be prepared to RESPOND (not REACT) to it.

Jesus told us that we can have victory over these times, so there must be a way to endure.  In Matthew 24:13, Jesus told the crowd, “[…] but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

So, the remedy to our troubled hearts and minds is to stand firm in our faith.

Now, more than ever, we must put on the whole armor of God.  I remember watching a movie many years ago about a boy who had no immune system.  He had to live his life in a bubble because contact with other humans could kill him.  His bubble was his armor against the diseases that could have killed him.  Note that the carriers of those diseases were able to survive with the disease, but the slightest contact with those same diseases would have killed the immune deficient boy.  Spiritually speaking, it is like that today.  Contact with the types of people who carry one or more of the 19 character traits (spiritual diseases) mentioned earlier, could practically kill our faith!  However, we must stand firm until the end.

Here is a reminder from Ephesians 6:10-18 of what we must wear everyday:

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Honestly, I used to read right through this passage of scripture because it had become familiar to me.  But today, I take my time and I take it seriously! In order to hold onto our faith and stand firm, we must:

·         Wear God’s Truth as a belt.  It contains all of your ammunition. Don't ever take it off.

·         Carry the Gospel of the Kingdom everywhere we go.  Use it as a wrecking ball to destroy evil. Remember, the gates of Hell cannot knock it down, so we can use it to press our way forward against the gates of Hell.

·         Place your faith in front of you to protect your heart.  People will break your heart, but God’s promises can serve as a buffer or as a balm to heal it.

·         Cover your mind with the fact that you are saved and loved by God no matter what comes your way. Constant contact with evil will contaminate you, so cleanse your mind with God's truth.

·         Wear the belt of Truth around your waist, but keep God’s Word in your heart and in your hand.  It is designed to separate soulish things from spiritual truths (Hebrews 4:12).  There are many deceivers lurking around ready to entice you and lull you into darkness.  As Paul told Timothy, “have nothing to do with them.”

I pray that this Word comforts you in this season of abounding iniquity.  May the Lord endue you with power from on high to utterly destroy the works of the enemy wherever your feet trod.  And may you and your families experience overflowing rivers of peace and blessings as the time draws closer to the return of our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dear Overwhelmed and Weary,

Isn't it amazing how God sends people to you who are needy when you can barely make it yourself? I believe that God does this on purpose.  He gives us the opportunity to focus on His Word long enough to get answers for others and ultimately encourage ourselves.  Otherwise, we would become depressed while wallowing in our own problems.  In the Bible, David was running for his life.  He had hidden in a cave and everybody from his home town who had problems came to him while he was hiding:

1 Samuel 22:1-2

1David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.  2And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

Isn't that something? David was already at the end of his rope and God sent everybody with every kind of issue to him for guidance.  That meant that he had his problems and the problems of 400 stressed, broke, and angry men too!  The fact that God trusts you to help others means that you are okay.  You just don't know how okay you are.  You have strength in you that God placed there.  He will not let it lay dormant.  You are overwhelmed and that is totally understandable. Some days, I just want to hide under a rock. And truthfully, some days, I wish that I would wake up in Heaven and it would be all over with.  But, I keep moving one day at a time.

If you are overwhelmed today, take a deep breath. Then thank God for allowing you to take that breath.  And from there, take it one day at a time.  And by all means, listen to some of that advice that you are giving out.  Anointing always flows better out of broken vessels.

Dear Child of God,

Sometimes, in our efforts to keep what we consider to be the "peace",  we try to smooth over issues that exist.  In time, these issues become underlying issues and eventually take root.  From there, they can form branches that go off into even more areas of dissension.  When Jesus came to the earth, contrary to popular belief, He did not come to bring peace between right and wrong on earth, but between right and wrong between sinners and His Father.  He was aware that while He fulfilled His purpose, there would be much fallout that would come in the form of division between wrongdoers and the righteous.

50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. - Luke 12:50-52

In order for reconciliation to take place on earth, issues must come to the surface and be dealt with.  The Lord has seen your desire to keep the atmosphere at peace.  However, there are those who will, in the long run, benefit from the confrontations that need to take place in order to uproot longstanding issues. These root issues are bringing inequities, and the Lord’s way of bringing resolution is to replace deception with truth.  Some will continue to resist the truth, and must move on.  Others will accept the truth and grow.

You do not need to feel that you have failed in your attempts to keep the "peace".  I really believe that the Lord wants to bring His Holy Wrecking Ball into the situation and destroy some things that have existed much too long.

Stay prayed up, and witness the salvation of the Lord. J

It will be much better after God’s demolition takes place.
