Life Catchers

A series of paintings created and solely a product of Silva's own technique. I make this statement not as criticism of other artist and creators, but like them we assume that our work is distinctively our own. But for most part most of our art it is the sum of the learning process, and at times images are borrow directly from other artists' past or present. As in this case it is rare that something new and individualistic of an artist portfolio is exhibited.

Life Catchers are formatted to fit the size of 14"x 18". Using raw untreated or non-primed artist linen., usually half of the painting is sewn onto another section of linen or canvas and at the point of connection the overlapping linen is frayed to hang freely. An image is applied to the top half and the bottom frayed linen represents a filter for the activities as it hangs in the exhibit area.

Symbolically what transpires in this environment whether home or office as the sound of everyday living filters through the strands and are captured.

The unvarnished linen is meant to accept dust and air borne soil, and will become part of the art and any memories collected to be past on as a silent history.
